Guest guest
Well, between this e-mail and the one suggesting that BCBS doesn't cover it anyways, I'm NOT pursuing this topic any longer, lol. Todd pellets I found one doc online who said this about the pellets: " I would have to charge $150 for each pellet implementation procedure. And the patient is quite sore for several days. I just plain don't like the pellets. Also, it is hard to get the total testosterone to the top of normal range with them, as you have to push so many in to do so. An incision is made around the area of the belt line. Then a trocar is used to shove the pellets in. A stitch may be placed (although some use a butterfly bandaid instead). I don't know how many docs use them. ly, I don't care. I think they are sort of barbaric. " Jim
Guest guest
Why not go with the pellets and add gel when deemed necessary. Just don't over do it on the pellets and then you can add gel when you want more t. Armyguy > Hi y, > > I know there are at least two pellet doses. Guest guest
Nick, Something to consider for sure. I would be concerned about them coming back out and will certainly address that with my doc, especially because I don't have a lot to insert them in, body-fat wise. And my impression is that they shoudl be inserted into the fat layer. Thanks for the info on the dosing. I will also find out what size pellets she uses. y > Hi y, > > I know there are at least two pellet doses. Guest guest
Hi, I have been using hormone pellet therapy for more than 10 years and never had a problem with them coming out because a trocar was used, This sharp tool is inserted under the skin to slide in the pellets. It has a hollow tube which is filled with pellets and the plunger shoves them out a few inches from the incision. There are still a few endocrinologists alive that were trained by Dr. Greenblatt of Augusta GA since the 50's. Most that remain are in their 70's. One is Dr. Lovell in Baton Rouge, LA and another Dr. R. Don Gambrell in Augusta, GA that I know about. Dr. Sipi of N. Burgen NJ passed away several years ago. Dosage.....The 75mg pellets are what my doctor uses and he gives one for every 10 pounds of body weight up to a max of 20 pellets. The primary problem with doctors with little experience is they are timid when it comes to providing a high enough dose to be beneficial. Many new to the hormone field take their direction from pharmaceutical reps instead of formal training. The pellets must be replaced every 4 months as they dissolve gradually providing a constant dosage night and day which minimizes the problem with conversion to E. At 72 after 10 years I have not had any adverse side effects but think my skin and appearance is one of the benefits. Dr. Shippen's book " The Testosterone Syndrome " gives good information on the benefit to the vital organs of the body as well as a sense of well being, greater mental faculties. ernestnolan > Another question I have seen go by over the months, but never paid > much attention to... > > Pellets. Guest guest
Ernest, The only drawback to pellets that I've read about is possible scarring where they're inserted. Has this been a problem for you since you've been at it for the past ten years? Thanks for the insights. > > Another question I have seen go by over the months, but never paid > > much attention to... > > > > Pellets. Anyone have a good site with info on these? Guest guest
Hi, As there are only 3 injections per year I now have a total of 30 or so scares that mostly shrink in appearance after a year or so. I don't go skinny dipping and my bathing suit covers them all. They go below the waist near the hip joint. Others have put them in the butt below the waist and in the abdomen again below the belt. The lump under the skin is tender for a week but never had one get infected or ooze. ernestnolan > > > Another question I have seen go by over the months, but never > paid > > > much attention to... > > > > > > Pellets. Guest guest
Thank you very much. This is excellent information and will help me discuss this with my doctor in a couple of weeks. I do know she uses a trocar so perhaps she is doing a similar procedure for her patients. Thanks, y > > Another question I have seen go by over the months, but never paid > > much attention to... > > > > Pellets. Anyone have a good site with info on these? Different > > kinds? Guest guest
My doctor used a Trocar as well. But, he was inexperienced in the procedure and hated doing it. As an Endocrinologist, I guess he wasn't cut out to make an incision. This was during 1988 - 1991. My abdomen was littered with " molehills " of still dissolving pellets for a couple of years. It did a great job, but for that. The guys I know from the Testicular Cancer group I belong to tend to prefer the buttock location. Good luck ! Nick > Re: Pellets > > > Thank you very much. Guest guest
Hi, WOW was I surprised to find the pellets now have a name. That is a product of a compounding pharmacy, Bartor Pharmacl Rye NY. I don't think he has any reps. All testosterone hormone pellets are now FDA approved for treating andorpause, since about 1997 maybe. A family member makes estrogen pellets in the same neighborhood. That product is the same identical crystaline hormone being manufactured by other pharmacies but just called testosterone pellets. ernestnolan > > >Pharmaceutical reps do not handle pellets at all as it is a > >compounding pharmacy product. > > > There is one commercial product, FDA approved. Yep, but my HMO and others I assume won't administer compounded T. They will administer FDA approved commercial products. So having a name brand can help. Guest guest
Hi, I think you are very right. I didn't think about it before - but it's likely to be easier to convince doctors to try it as well. And especially knowing Aetna has approved it for coverage! I'm still working on my endo. He said he'd never heard of 'em, wouldn't know where to get them, wouldn't feel right putting 'em in himself, wouldn't know who to ask . . and on and on. (What a string of excuses, aye? Should of heard him when I pushed for Arimidex!) Got it though. Two weeks on Arimidex and I'm feeling better everyday!!. I'd done shots for 3 months and my endo wanted to stop to see if my body's take back the HPTAxis reigns. (I'd had an intestinal parasite. She thought absorbtion and nutrition might have been a problem. ) Arg. A 3 month crash. Got back on shots. First one or two for some reason jumped my blood pressure up 30 points. Yikes. (Likely all the fluid retention I gained 15 pounds in a week or two.) He dropped me to 100 mg every two week. Another crash. Then gel . No lift from one packet, went to two packets. No lift. Tested for E. Off the charts. Fought for Arimidex. Got it. Now two weeks and its great to be back!!. Started exercising again this week. Haven't had the energy or mental drive to make it happen in months. Now the trick is to get the Arimidex renewed, and work the doc over to pellets. Two years of treatment and three months of feeling good. Boy it sucks. But its good to be well.

Have you ever had problems with blood clots during or prior to using the pellets? 2. What has your hemadicrit(sp) been while on the pellets? 3. What has your collestrol been while on the pellets? 4. Do any of you have problems with circulation? 5. Do any of you have joint or muscle aching with pellets? 6. Do any of you on pellets smoke? He has had previous problems with blood clots but not for years. Thanks so much, /Montana

Was doing a 200 mg shot on top of the Testim every other week. I was thinking about going back on the pellets but testim is doing a good job now. I have a lot of energy now. Yeah - thanks. I've been doing Arimidex for about three weeks. 1 mg a day for the first few days, since then I've gone to 1/2 an mg a day. I already had my Total T at 998 on gel and free at 210. SHBG at 20. All good numbers apparently - unfortunately E2 was at 46 in a reference scale to 43. And so I felt none of it. The last 6 days Arimidex is finally being felt!! Boy is it great!! My energy is back, I've started biking and swimming one or the other almost everyday. Unbelievable I've lost 9 pounds in one week!! Blood pressures come down 20 points!! SOme of that I assume is water weight from E2 maybe. But boy it feels good to feel good. Haven't felt like this since june when they pulled me off shots for a test. I suspect things are even going to improve a bit more. Every days so far has a bit more focus a bit more energy. Color me happy!
Guest guest
Hi, Rather than insert answers I'll try and list the answers. 1. My endo always checks my hemadicrit or quantity of red blood cells I think that is. After 10 years it has never been too high. I do take an asprin, 385mg everyday which could be more than others would take. Started asprin in 1982. 2. Do not know what the readings are but have been staying under the values of concern. 3. I have been taking lipitor since it came out as I had a by-pass in 1982 before I began TRT in 1991. The early medications were polystyrene then mevacore then zocor and now 30mg/day lipitor. The values are good enough to satisfy my cardiologist. 4. No problems with circulation but did have a vein taken from my leg for the by-pass in 1982. Used to have trouble standing for more than a few minutes while waiting for the wife to shop but do walk 45 minutes /day - 3 miles/day. 5. I had joint and muscle pain before starting TRT and have been taking celebrex and glucosamine/chondroiten daily which completely eliminates the arthritis swelling and pain. 6. Never smoked. Good idea to have a low PSA as you could have a cancer that could be made worse if it is sensitive to testosterone. > My hubby requested that I ask these questions: > > For those of you on pellets or have been on pellets, > > 1. Guest guest
, Congratulations. I switched to pellets about 6 weeks back. It took about 3 weeks for them to kick in, and things are wonderful. CFS-like symptoms have abated roughly 80%, I'm active again. I think I've finally found the right delivery method, after Androderm, Androgel and injections (Delatestryl). I see my doc again on Monday. My doc started me on Arimidex (1mg twice/wk) at the same time as pellet implantation, anticipating conversion to E2. He called last week: lab results at 5 weeks show increased E2, he told me to increase Arimidex to 3 times a week. (I'll post the new numbers next week). Do you have prior E2 numbers? If next ones are high, does your uro know what to do about E2? Am I correct in assuming the 6 pellets were 200mg each? Best regards, Bruce > today i got 6 testosterone pellets installed and my uro. gave me a free sample of cialis 3 20mg pills. > i go back in a month for bloodwork for t. and for estrogen. > it was painless and took maybe ten minutes for the pellets. Unl;ess they are from the same source and standardized I'm not sure you can compare. Different doses for the pellets with different sizes. If your T levels don't go high enough he can add more. _______ Vote Bush/Voldemort 2004!

I am over 230 pounds so get the max of 20 pellets. ------------------------- Ernest, based on that formula, does that give you the 10mg of T a day that we seem to require? thanks norton
