Guest guest
There are so many variables involved to be certain. Only way to be sure is to try. You may have other hormones then just testosterone to adjust. Hope you have had a complete blood work up. You have CFS from one of your posts, have you been exposed to heavy metals? What was your TSH, DHEA-S,igf-1 at? You may need to just get up to the top of the range to feel good. You are not happy on gels? The VA gave you 300mg once a month? A 300mg shot should have some effect for at least a week, driving the testosterone levels at least if not past the top of the range for a few days. It took me 6 months to get stable on injections, but at least i could tell i was going in the right direction. 5-htp, melatonin, DHEA, zinc with copper, all are great to try. > You may remember that I said that when my low T was originally found, > the VA had me on shots once a month. What form of testosterone were you taking by injection? And did you have followup blood work done after starting the shots? Current state-of-the-art TRT uses T-cypionate, self-injected subQ into the fat of the belly, usually once a week or every five days. Typical dose is between .5 and .6 ml. This protocol produces a very steady lift in T levels for me and many others. But all kinds of stuff has to be measured. Some forms of T may cause your estrogen levels to skyrocket, so you would actually feel worse, even with higher T. It's a multivariate analysis that has to be done. It's not enough to take a shot and say I felt better or I didn't feel better. You have to know what the actual effects of the therapy are on the levels of multiple hormones in your blood. Successful TRT usually requires subtle adjustment to nudge the various hormones into the right windows. A once-a-month shot of T doesn't sound to me like an intelligent treatment, frankly. In my humble opinion, priority #1 in this game is finding the right doctor. Dex
Guest guest
, Thanks for your response. About a year ago a doc did a test (i think saliva) on DHEA and it was a little low, but it seems to me like DHEA supplementation carries a lot of risk from what i've read here and elsewhere. But i'm open to opinions and suggestions. TSH is normal now. Mark
Guest guest
DHEA over 100mg a day might, but 25mg a day will not, at least not in a man. The saliva tests are in my view, suspect. Blood, urine and stool are the way to go. Hair and saliva i don't trust as saliva showed my testosterone normal, and lead me astray for over a year. More risk injecting testosterone. And what is the TSH number? TSH 2 or greater is not normal. CFS can be thyroid related. > , > > Thanks for your response. Guest guest
Yeah, I'm not real pleased with what they tried back then. I can't remember the name of the med, but I think it started with a D. Injected 200 intramusclar. Mark
Guest guest
, I'm not sure what the most recent TSH number was. I know the new endo tested T4 and said it was normal. Mark
Guest guest
You should have copies of every blood test done. Call up everywhere from the last 20 years and get a copy. Your health is too important to leave to doctors. > , > > I'm not sure what the most recent TSH number was. Guest guest
Hi Mark, Shots once a month are too far apart. I was on 150mg T-enanthate (Delatestryl) every 3 weeks, and results could have been better. I was on the phone to my former endo about increasing frequency when his attitude told me to hang up & find another doc. I still like your ideas about jump-starting natural T production. swrtw2001's comments to you (message 14412) along that line are interesting. Best, Bruce > You may remember that I said that when my low T was originally found, > the VA had me on shots once a month. Guest guest
, Yeah, good advice. I was planning on getting a copy of these labs when I see the doc again on friday. Mark
Guest guest
Bruce, Yeah, I know now they were too far apart. But I guess I was wondering if I didn't feel any benefit at all from the shot (other than reducing hot flashes), even shortly after getting it, if more frequent shots would have the same result. I hope the shots work for you again. I have been really sorry to hear about how the pellets didn't work for you. Even though we've never met, we've had similar experiences with our health and " I feel your pain " . We'll see how the visit goes this friday. I may be firing this doc anyway. She seemed very responsive and knowledgeable at the first visit. Since then, however, her lack of follow up has been discouraging. First of all, she wanted me to contact their lab about " missing " test results. Turns out she never ordered the tests she was looking for, and I didn't think it was my job to do their follow up, anyway. I had those tests redone about 4 weeks ago, and I still haven't heard from her even though I left a message in person at her office and a phone message last week. The plan was to put me on a treatment a week after first visit and then follow up on the results of the treatment at this visit (6 weeks since last visit). The lack of response lately has not been encouraging. I left a message for my primary doc at the end of last week expressing my displeasure. If I go to the visit this week and find out she hasn't been doing some kind of research or consulting with other doctors, I think my wife and I will be walking out the door. I just contacted a local compounding pharmacy today to ask if they know of anyone who does HRT for men. They gave me the name of a family practice doc nearby. I may see him soon for yet another opinion. Mark

Guest guest
Hi, as Tim said it is once a week these days. those who treated before us had to do 3 shots a week. The syringe comes prefilled and is mailed to your house on ice. If you don't think you can give yourself a shot, you could go to your doctor, I think some do, but it is easy. question about shots Do we give ourselves tx shots, as I can't visit my doctor every week. How often do you normally take them , 3x a week? I have no idea. I don't know where i got the idea that its 3x a week but I heard it somewhere.
