Guest guest
Hey , im not sure how the vasectomy has lowered your levels of gonadotropins, especially FSH. Possibly the infection has caused some problem. You need to see a specialist. I have read that it is the negative feed back of E2 that inhibits secretion of FSH, whereas testosterone exerts both direct and indirect(via aromatisation to E) feedback on LH secretion. The only OTC supplement that you could try is tribulus at 3-4 grams a day. However, clomid or nolvadex maybe what the doctor may give you to stimulate your PIT to produce more LH and FSH and thus T. Have your levels of semen also dropped dramatically as well from the low FSH levels? > Some new lab results. FSH is <0.30 (0.9-15.0), LH is 3.3 (1.3- > 12.9), Prolactin is 5.0 (2.1-17.1). > > I have had borderline-low T and free T recently. Guest guest
Devo, Most posters here talk about LH rather than FSH stimualtion due to LH signals T production. Luckily, drugs/supplements that stimulate LH usually also stimulate FSH. Having said that, good candidates for stimulation are Clomid (a synthetic estrogen) and HCG. Supplements include Tribulus Terresteria and Tongkat Ali. The AACE guidelines in the file section describe the Clomid stimulation test. Also, Clomid may cause eye problems so watch out. Hope that helps Oh, and a... bye the way, wipe it good. > Some new lab results. Guest guest
Matt, Hi, I too have low FSH. On two tests my FSH was a 2, with a range of 2-8. I suspect that this could be a little higher or lower at certain times of the day. My problem stems from a drug called propecia. The drug works by inhibiting the alpha-5 reductace enzhyme (II) which converts t into dht. It was for stupid fn hairloss. My tests are very odd. my dht was 1.5 times the upper limit on the range; one test. my lh was a 5 with a scale of 2-6, estrogen 130 (range <260) and total testosterone was 16 adn then 19 on the second test (10.5-34.5). Oh yeah, and my free T on one test was 54.3; scale of 31-94. Both tests were between 11am and 12pm. But each time i wasn't outta bed for more than 1.5 hours before the test. I was intrigued what you said about estrogen messing up your fsh . I am in canada and apparently the e2 tests are not as accurate to those performed in quest. This drug yoiu mention, tribulus. It's OTC, but how safe is it? I'd be interested to trying that before i went ahead and tried something like clomid. And do you think that my e2 could be what is messing me up? btw, i have definitely lowered and clearer ejaculate. mattmuscledude <simbarn@...> wrote: Hey , im not sure how the vasectomy has lowered your levels of gonadotropins, especially FSH. Guest guest
Hey TRL, Yeah apparently propecia causes problems for some guys by unbalancing all the hormones. lowering DHT increases testosterone and thus increasing aromatase of T into E2... I have heard that some people take arimidex with propecia to try and counteract this. Some studies have revealed that that E2 is the predominant regulator of FSH in the male. So perhaps it would be a good idea to get some more tests to determine accuratly where you levels are for that. Your measurments of your last test are in pmol/l or? I was confused as to the range they gave you as im not familar with that one. As my labs use pmol/l and there range is <150. When did you get those results... as your DHT is high, obviously when you had stopped propecia? The lowered ejaculate quantity is probably due to the low FSH. I think LH stimulates more test production and FSH is definetly more related to fertilty, so one would asumme that also encourages the prostate to produce seminal fluid. I have done a a fair bit of research on this as i had the same problem and wanted to know why. Clomid has the apparent effect of greatly increasing ejaculate levels, obviously because of its effects of blocking the E2 negative feedback to the pituatary, signaling a need for more FSH secretion. Tribulus has similar properties and can stimulate both FSH and LH, the herb has a balancing action on the hypo axis and can be quite effective for some guys in restoring that balance, however for some it only works for a short period and then the body realises and stops its influence. Guest guest
Here is something to consider. If your LH is near top of the range, but your T level is only midrange, then does that mean your leydig cells are producing to the best of their ability? Afterall, isn't it common for primary hypogonadal men to have high LH but low T - with the reason being their testicles cannot produce T and so the brain goes crazy in telling the testicles to produce T. If that is the case, then you might have to accept the notion that you have suffered permanent damage. I have had some similar labs in the past. I think its possible that their might be a condition somewhere between secondary and primary hypogonadal and I am at that point. Better luck to you. Guest guest
I believe a drug called HMG (synthetic FSH?) is used to induce sperm production. Guest guest
Possibly, however, I think you are forgeting that alot of males in the population have testosterone levels around the mid range mark of say 17-22 and that is perfectly healthy. That amount of natural testosterone is doing the job its needed to... saying that he may have suffered permanent damage with levels like that is questionable. I am sure that most guys on this board would like to have test levels in the upper range... however in reality that is not true to nature. My converstions with doctors who have experience in testing normal healthy guys and my own experience in having guys tested who i train for fitness confirms this. So the fact that he has LH which is ever so slightly high(within normal limits) and is producing 19 nmol/l is totally normal. His tests were done more towards midday, so an early morning test would probably reveal a higher number. However a high LH should rule out estrogen problems as you would think that high E2 could lower LH levels significantly. > Here is something to consider. Guest guest
When I referred to HMG I was referring to a drug used to simulate FSH. I am not sure its called HMG, but I believe that is the name. You can google it. I would, but I am typing this message offline. In a message dated 7/21/2004 10:06:04 PM Eastern Daylight Time, no_reply writes: Double, Do you have more info on the drug?
