Re: Androgel Side effects

I think the long distance running might have been part of your

hormone problem in the first place... I have heard something about

long distance runners getting a little " too fit " and their systems

getting screwed up a bit. Lifting weights alone and bulking up might

be the answer for getting your hormones fixed in the first place if

you are secondary hypo (not sure what your situation is).

I am not sure on the heart rate or the bulking up thing.

Also, I am not sure if water retention is directly related to

estradiol or not, I actually don't think that it is. But Water

retention can happen with TRT.. I am not too knowledgeable on that

aspect, hopefully someone else here has some good advice on how to

deal with water retention.

But as far as the heart rate and weight gain go.. neither of them

sound like such a bad thing to me! Your heart rate is still

fantastic and healthy, and bulking up might be something that will

restore more health to your system. I guess those are bad things for

a long distance runner... maybe time to start a new sport :)!

Cheers,

Armyguy

Armyguy and Phil, Thanks for the very insightful posts... I think you

are right on that the long distance running might be one of the

problems with my low T as well as Propecia I took a few years back.

One of the problems with marathon training is that it is highly

addictive and its hard to accept but it is what it is... My wife

likes me a little bulkier anyways.

I have been on Androgel for almost a month and feeling pretty good.

(after ditching Zoloft)

If I keep gaining I might have to ask the doc.

The resting HR thing could also be that I am fighting off something.

thanks,

Glenn

I can only say have your E2 tested if your high it will do this and as for the

BP the body needs to get use to the new T levels if high enough. What are your

last tests with the rangs can you post them. E2 is Estradiol.

HI, I'm new to the group and am full of questions: first, anyone taking

androgel having Blood pressure problems? Second, I don't know if this

is from androgel, but Iused to be a skinny guy, then put on muscle but

now I feel my chest and abdomen are bloated . I look abnormal (to me)

and find it difficult to wear my clothes properly. I certainly feel

miserable. Have difficulty breathing from the pressure. Basically, I've

got a good build. 6'2' and all that, but I am really suffering here.

Anybody with any similar experiences??

Brad

I too experienced a rise in blood pressure when I went on Androgel.

I am slim also 5 9 160lbs and always was BP 120/80 and after 30 days

on Agel went to 147/95 and a little higher at times got scared and

quit.

My doc said not to worry but my total T was not real low to start

around 400..but I had all the symtoms of low T and will say I felt

better on the the Androgel.

I recently (about 3 weeks) went back on Testim started 1/2 dosage

for a week then went full. My Bp has stayed down so far.

I also am using NOS Nitros Oxide Synsthesiser. Which is L-Arginine.

Read about it here. Was posted it would lower BP.

I am researching for a Doc well versed in male HRT. Will keep you

posted let us know what happens with you as well.

Phil,

thanks so much for taking time to answer. there is so much " stuff " on here. I'm

lost. your advice seems sound, though. My Internist tried me on androgel, and

nothing happened. My T levels kept plummeting to less than 100. Then I went to

an endo, he did the same thing, and put me on androgel or testim. Suddenly, T

levels went high and he cut the dosage back. But I suddenly started the BP

problems and I'm sure I have high E levels although the end says not. I don't

know why he is doing the same thing my internest prescribed. Seems he would ahve

tried the things eveyone on here is recommending.

I know this had been applying a good bit of the gel to my penis,a nd I wonder if

that is why BP went up suddenly. I have never understood why it is recommended

NOT to apply it on the penis. Instructions give no reasons. Anybody???

Thanks Brad

Much of the BP going up can be caused by your T levels going up and your body is

not use to high levels. The same thing will happen if you start lowing a med or

upping it. The body does not like change. So when you get leveled off this

should go back to normal. As for putting gel on the boys we all read Dr.

Shippen 's book " The Testosterone Syndrome " and in it he talked about putting on

a cream to help with rebuilding the penis from lack of T. But using Gels is not

good to strong and made some of us have very high DHT. Mine went way up.

Here is a cut and paste.

Phil

Eugene Shipppen, M.D., author of The Testosterone Syndrome promotes

application of T to nuts....on page 197 " Men who are using this form of

testosterone to improve sexual function may wish to use the cream (not the

gel--it will sting) on the head or shaft of the penis or on the scrotum..

This deliver testosterone in a more concentrated form into the genital area.

In addition, because there are tremendous concentrations of the 5-alpha

reductase enzyme down there, much of this testosterone will be converted to

dihydro-testosterone (DHT), a form of the enzyme that cannot be converted by

aromatase into estrogen. "
