Now, Liz presents me with a CHALLENGE! HAH~! To begin with I don't dwell on my age and never tell it! (Like Blanche on Golden Girls!) HAH! Just kidddding! I always ask when someone asks me, " How old are you? " I always say, " Does it matter? " While rotating at different jobs and being a new face, women get curious about me and want to know my age. They wait to know me better before attempting to ask. Understandably, but when their curiosity get them going, I usually say, " Does it matter? " Feels good to know that my doctor's give me eight years younger when I take their many test. That's what you get for not smoking, drinking or cursing through life...LOL! Actually, I try to think healthy, stay healthy and keep a healthy spirit about me. Our biggest killers for age is STRESS! A problem for me has been attracting younger men, some 6-8 years. Never fails and I end up feeling like a cradle robber. Then it switches and I am attracting older men, some 9 to 15 years and feel like a gold digger. I can't seem to hit a happy medium and no one can figure out how old I really am. (Maybe the truth is, I forgot and don't know either!) LOL! The world almost discovers me one day while at the library. A little girl came up to me with her mother to check out books. She was so adorable. I always seem to get on well with kiddos too, like the Pipe Piper. This was apparent when my next door neighbors' 4 year old daughter wanted to invite her bestfriend to her Birthday Party and they couldn't figure out where she met this little friend of hers. They had never heard of another little girl with the name their daughter gave on this block. When questioning her, she pointed " me " out!(The child thought I was her age too!) HAH! Anyway, back to the library and my other little girlfriend. This little girl strikes up a conversation with me saying, " You're really nice. " I tell her, " Thank you! You look like a nice person too. " She says, " You are really pretty too. " I say, " Thank you, you are too. " She says, " How old are you? " Well, about this time the gals I worked with leaned into our conversation from all sides, like when E.F. Hutton speaks everyone listens! (dead silence) waiting for me to spill the beans. There is a line of patrons with frozen smiles listening to all this waiting for my response too. An awkward question from a child that's voice is heard throughout the ENTIRE library! Out of the mouths of babes! I'm telling you. I pause, but my wit is quick as I smile at her and say, " Well, let me see, how old are you? " The little girl says, " I'm five. " perking up very proud. I say, " Whoa, that's how old I am! " Everybody is LAUGHING!!!!...including me~! So, how old am I? Old enough to know better and and young enough to be related to Pan! (How's that for an answer?) For me, " old " is a state of mind. I'll admit, I am AROUND your age if it makes you and Karma feel any better. Although, I can't tell age for most people I meet. I find I am attracted to their " SPIRIT " and personality. I don't define them by age or some category. Its like walking into a party for the first time and you're a stranger to everybody else, you either " clic " with them, or you don't. It is through " spirit " that you make the connection, not because of their age. That is how I relate. That's why for me--age doesn't matter. I seem to blend in well enough (for my age) with young, elderly, and everybody...and it makes me become " ageless " to them and they " ageless " to me. If you keep your SPIRIT " alive " ...that's what others see in you. That's what makes you SPECIAL to them and them SPECIAL to you! BUT...for your information Songbird, YOU ARE RIGHT! You don't look to be someone nearing the big 40. (as it is referred to). YOU LOOK GREAT just as you are and YOUTHFUL TOO! Just remember and never forget, YOU LOOK FABULOUS! What you BELIEVE is what you SEE! Hense, a state of mind. Also, may I add, SO DOES KARMA LOOK FABULOUS...I've seen her picture too. GIVE YOURSELVES A LOT OF CREDIT...YOU BOTH LOOK GREAT!!! That is BS (IMHO!!!!!!) For me the really hard thing was having a 2 year old at that age and having 0 energy to keep up with him!!! Also, things just get slower, and take longer, etc.... My kids were more grown up - some had even left home and now I only have one left at home and he's an adult. I can now do what I like, when I like, with who I like. I have more money than I have ever had and a successful business. so see you all in NYC October 2003 when I hit the big 50. I'm going to have breakfast in Londoon, lunch in Paris and dinner in NYC. Seriously, 40 was really great. It was very liberating. I stopped worrying about what other people think. I started concentrating on what I want out of life. I had a surprise party at a dinner theater where you become part of the show. It was " Somebody or other's Italian/ Jewish Wedding. " Much to the surprise of my family and friends I became a character in the play, got up made a speech and carried on with one of the waiters. Now 45 is weird. On my 40th, my eldest son took me to a Rare Earth concert and I had more fun than anyone else. Life really does begin at 40! granny, closer to 70 than 60. At 42 I had my little girl Fiona, DS and severe complications, and life got very complicated and exhausting. I am now 48 and I sometimes feel like 70 (hi Granny) but now things are slowly getting better again and sometimes I do feel like 35 again. 40 passed without me really noticing it, I was in the midst of my OT exam, just had gotten married, just had lost a baby, just bought a house, moved, got the 3 big boys settled in the new surroundings and new bus routes, and then my aunt who had lived with us all my childhood long died suddenly and I flew home to Canada for the funeral, and had to face the fact that my parents weren't in the best of health anymore either. I will be 48 tomorrow and I don't plan on getting old anytime soon. I love the dinner theater thing, it must have been a riot. You have the right idea, keep up the good work. And by the way, anyone that's reading this. Please keep my family in prayer. The adoption agency whrere we adopted Micah from called and asked if we would be interested in adopting a chinese baby girl with DS. We think we might. Will let everyone know. You will know what I mean when you get there! You just dont understand!!! " Hey not to sound morbid, but some people dont make it to 40 - my collegue passed away at 48. I ended up preempting them, and heading off to visit friends in California for a run of Grateful Dead shows. Big Fun! We bought rainbow glasses in the parking lot, which, once you put them on, make all incoming light refract into rainbows. We walked around goggling like ... well, I know we looked funny! We discovered it is not wise to drive while wearing these, lol.... Friday I turn 52. I miss the Grateful Dead....sigh. Ramona is already singing to me, though, and a little while she came up to me and said, " I have ten hugs for you for your birthday! " . My husband gets better looking each year and he will be 44 in July. Thank god his long hair days are over . I'm hoping my 40's will be favorable to me as his 40's have been to him. I consider my birthday to be a celebration of when my mother gave me life. She should not have had any children due to her fragile heart. So I look at birthdays much differently now that she is gone.
