Guest guest
DrWhitiker.com If it seems as if kids have been under attack lately.they have! In late September, two separate FDA advisory committees gave the okay to administer a powerful stimulant - dextroamphetamine - to healthy children as young as nine as part of a study on ADHD. They, along with children already diagnosed with ADHD, would be given this drug and their brains would be monitored by MRI. When I read that the Pediatric Advisory Committee had agreed to use healthy kids as guinea pigs, it made me wonder if these people had any ethical values left. Their reasoning is that the advancement of science far outweighs the risks posed by drugging healthy children. Hogwash! What's even more unbelievable is that this decision was made despite a March 2004 decision by the National Institutes of Health Internal Review Board. They found that " the administration of dextroamphetamine posed more than minimal risks to healthy children. " Drugs are not the answer to ADD and ADHD, and drugging healthy children is just wrong. You can help me fight the FDA on this one. The final decision on whether to turn our kids into guinea pigs lies in the hands of Tommy , the head of the Department of Health and Human Services. Allowing this to happen would set a dangerous precedent. I urge you to e-mail Tommy (tommy.thompson@...) and encourage him to " Just Say No " for the sake of our children and grandchildren. Guest guest
Hi, , hope you're well. I found your email very disturbing and did further research on it myself. I found a lot of information regarding the NIH's proposal to conduct dextroamphetamine testing on children. However, none of my findings turned up anything after September 15th, which is when the evaluation meeting was to take place. I also saw nothing on Dr. Whitaker's site about dextroamphetamine except a link with information about purchasing it from Canada. The entire site seemed to be primarily advertising links for various supplements and drugs. I have drafted a letter that I'd like to send to Tommy , but before I send it I'm looking to see what the current status of this proposal is. If you have any other information on this please let me know. In the meantime I found some very interesting links which I've posted below. The last one sadly gives additional weight to Victor Connor's recent email about corporations are running our country. It also contains another scary fact on the page for Ann Veneman, the Agriculture Secretary, who has indirect links to Monsanto: " Monsanto, which donated more than $12,000 to Bush’s presidential bid, wants two things this year: no mandatory labeling of biotech foods and better access to international markets. " If they get their way people will have no idea that they are eating genetically engineered foods. www.fdaadvisorycommittee.com http://ahrp.org/risks/SSRIsuicide0904.html http://www.helpforadd.com/mta.htm http://www.opensecrets.org/bush/cabinet.asp Thanks, Karyn wakiza21 <wakiza21@...> wrote: DrWhitiker.com If it seems as if kids have been under attack lately.they have! Guest guest
Hi Karyn, Thanks for the updated information on the NIH proposal to conduct dextroamphetamine testing on children. Also the information that I had was from Dr. Whitaker's newletter. And yes I will agree with you that the information that is in his newsletters cannot be found on his website. In fact I think that I will drop him a line and let him know that many people find that very confusing!!!! You also mentioned that Ann Veneman, the Agriculture Secretary, has indirect links to Monsanto. Nevertheless Karyn, please don't forget that Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld, is also a former Big Shot Employee of Monsanto. As they say, " Politics sure does make for strange bedfellows. Guest guest
Hi, , thanks for your help. As I said, the thing I am really trying to find out is if the proposal has already been accepted; if so I'd like to change the wording on it so I don't sound like an idiot! I hadn't read about Rumsfeld's links to Monsanto. Unfortunately I agree with Victor Connor's statement that it doesn't really matter what side you choose - our leaders are really puppets of big business. In the meantime here is my draft; feel free to comment, or if you like it, to use it and attach your own name: Mr. Tommy G. Health and Human Services Secretary Dear Mr. , I have just read of the National Institute of Health's proposal to administer dextroamphetamine to healthy children as part of an ADD/ADHD study. According to the FDA Advisory site, the FDA's Pediatric Ethics Subcommittee has recommended that this test be allowed to proceed, despite concerns relating to potential abuse of the stimulant. " The subcommittee agreed that the study represented only a minor increment to minimal risk to children due to the relative safety of dextroamphetamine. " I find the terms " minimal risk " and " relative safety " extremely disturbing. Relative to what? To Vioxx? That the government considers even a minimal risk to the health of the children of this country acceptable is frightening. Shouldn't we be protecting children from any and all risks? As a child I watched other children on the beach with limbs disfigured from Thalidomide, a " safe " sedative. In 1997 FenPhen was taken off the market because it was found to cause heart valve problems. In the last 5 years SSRI's such as Paxil, Zoloft and Luvox have been linked to depression, violence and suicide, in children as well as adults. The dangers of Vioxx have dominated the news for the last 3 weeks. There is not a drug on the market that doesn't have side effects, many of them potentially life-threatening. The list of drugs recalled due to dangerous side-effects goes on and on. Haven't these lessons taught us anything? How many more examples of the dangers of these drugs do we need to see before proper safeguards are put in place? Now the FDA is considering unleashing an untested drug onto unsuspecting, innocent victims. These children will have no say in whether or not their lives are put at " minimal " risk. The parents who offer their children up for testing will most likely consider their participation, as well as the chance to make $570, to be a good thing. Please prevent this proposal from going through. The health and safety of thousands of children is in your hands. Sincerely, Karyn Witzel wakiza21 <wakiza21@...> wrote: Hi Karyn, Thanks for the updated information on the NIH proposal to conduct dextroamphetamine testing on children.
