Guest guest
Someone here posted that eating a lot of apples will help - you have to eat 3-4 for results but it has definitely worked for me. Mainly you need to take high qtys of magnesium which is the main thing your body needs when you are constipated. I'm not sure what the max amt you can take is - I'll try to find out. Also try to have some olive oil every day which acts as a lubricant, and of course plenty of water. Has this gotten worse since the weather got colder? Think how dry and tight your skin gets in the winter - the same thing is happening to your internal organs. You need to eat and drink things that will keep them from drying out. And by the way - stop eating jello, cereal and pizza! None of them will help you. Good luck! shefy7 <shefy7@...> wrote: Hi all! I've posted on other groups too, but with no answers. Guest guest
Hi to everyone, Shefy -- I too have experienced constipation and have be searching for an answer for years. I tried fibre, more water, eating fruit -- but none of those gave me the desired results. I believe I have finally found the solution for me -- magnesium supplement. I agree with 's statement about needing to take high quantities of mag. There are many different forms of mag. out there on the market -- my research has led to magnesium oxide being the best form for those with a tendency for constipation. Relative to Karyn's question on " the max amt you can take " , that varies with each person. You will need to experiment with the amount -- start with one 400 mg. tablet/capsule, and increase your intake by one each day until you experience watery bowel movements (bm's), then back off by one and monitor how you do at that level. I have learned that I have to take 2 to 3 400 mg. capsules of mag. oxide per day to keep things moving -- you may need only 1 per day, or maybe 6 per day. Take however many you need to have multiple bowel movements per day. I have read that a rule of thumb is to have a BM for each regular meal you eat -- three meals = 3 bm's. It is probably best to divide up to daily dose -- in other words, don't take them all at the same time. If you take 3, take one in am, one in afternoon, and one at bedtime. The 1997 Dietary Reference Intake (DRI) for magnesium is 420 mg. for males 25 and over, and 320 mg. for females 25 and over. This info came from the book " Nutrition Almanac " , Fifth Edition, by Lavon J. Dunne. This book recommends 400-800 mg. per day for constipation. Other nutrients suggested are Vit. C (1000 mg.), folic acid (2-5 mg. if deficient - I don't know how one would determine this), pectin (500 mg. - source of fibre). What the mag. does is promote muscle contraction of the smooth muscles in the gut. Ellie Cullen, RN, author of the book " Normal Blood Test Scores Aren't Good Enough ! " , finds, thru blood testing (her testing service is called Your Future Health (YFH) -- www.yourfuturehealth.com ), low mag. levels in 90 % of clients tested. I had my blood tested thru YFH and learned that I was low in magnesium (1.3 MEQ/L, where the lab reference range was 1.3 - 2.1). The optimal level would be around 2. Isn't it interesting that a test for magnesium level in the blood is not a part of any standard panel of tests suggested by the American Medical Association. Ellie Cullen also finds that around 80 % of clients tested are deficient in zinc. The magnesium oxide supplement I like is Liquid Magnesium, from Carlson Labs. The best buy I have found is at vitacost.com --- 250 capsules for $18. Here is their web link: http://www.vitacost.com/ Give magnesium oxide a try, and let us know whether or not you are having a " moving " experience !!! I am pretty constipated, but I'm not sure why. To spell it out, " mystery " constipation is often caused by a simple fluorish of bad bowel bacteria in the gut, fed by an overabundance of carbohydrates. The condition, called dysbiosis, or in Europe, dysbacteriosis, is one in which bowel candida and other pathogenic organisms fluorish as the rise in PH fails to subdue them. The result is huge toxin load as production continues 24 hours a day; obviously this toxin source will undermine the rest of your health regime. Toxin load has been identified as a cause of immune dysfunction for example. The cure is inulin; it corrects diarrhea, constipation, AND dysbiosis. And the modern diet is deficient in inulin by some 3/4 to 4/5. Further information on inulin is here: http://members.shaw.ca/duncancrow/inulin_review.html Duncan Crow
Guest guest
Hi Duncan, Yes, I do believe that's what I have. My pH level is very acidic. In fact my urine is very hot, literally. And I have a lot of acid reflux, too. All due to candida I believe. I'm not sure what foods have inulin? I'm vegetarian, too! Any more help? Thanks! Guest guest
Again, I would lay off things like pizza which will have the opposite effect. You could also try taking magnesium supplements to see if that helps. shefy gupta <shefy7@...> wrote: Hey Karyn, Thanks for sending that! Guest guest
, You still may benefit from supplementing with magnesium and probiotics. Although that chart shows magnesium rich foods and WHAT IS SUPPOSED to be in, with today's farming practices, I doubt that those numbers are correct. Guest guest
Magnesium good, water intake good, fiber (vegetarian) good.... Acid reflux, inflammation.....hmmmm Almost sounds like when you ingest fats there is no bile salts in the stomach to help break the fats down...and the gall bladder is reacting by dumping huge amounts of acid into the stomach to do the job... If over time those acids reach the lower GI.....you might have IBS like your doc said... Make sure you're not drinking too much water and that it is not distilled (unless you're doing a cleanse) as too much water will begin to pull minerals from the body. More minerals, more alkaline generally speaking.... Also, one member of my family had the nausea and later turned out she had an intestinal blockage...the doc may have wanted the sigmoidoscopy to check that and check for diverticuluosis...really can't tell too much from an x-ray...not too big a deal, I just had it done too! In and out in 6 hours, same day....and the peace of mind to go with it.... I beat my acid reflux by eating cholesterol, water, PeptoBismol) bismuth (hostile to H. Pylori and turns stool black) , and eating a can of pineapple a day for 30 days....(although my cholesterol intake mainly came from animal fats) If you could eat cheeses eggs and butter that would help to create the lacking bile salts....but ingesting it actually produces more acid in the beginning so have plenty of water and Pepto-Bismol or equivalent around of you try it...took me about 6 weeks....and now I just have to watch what I eat and keep drinking the water!... Guest guest
Yes, that's probably what happened to me. I thought I had an intestinal blockage but my doc said that pain is " unbearable " . I just have a discomfort in my gallbladder. I eat cheeses, but I will start adding eggs back in. I just can't bear the thought of a sigmoidoscopy. My dad just had one done, but he needed it. I'm only 21! I just can't bear the thought of it...at least yet. If I was OK with doing that I'd probably go and get a colon cleansing enema or whatever they call it! Guest guest
Cipro is the very drug that push me over the edge with candidiasis. It is a very powerful antibiotic that kills everything in the GI tract as far as bacteria goes, including both good and bad bacteria. This is the prime time for candida to take root and overgrow. It's a good thing she took the acidophilus afterward or she would have likely developed it as well. Guest guest
Ken I was very surprised that the chiropractor who was very health oriented... would have a doctor prescribe cipro for you problem The bad bacteria was tremendous..which explained a lot. she had yeast infections showing up every 4 weeks.... they used to show up a couple times a year. He had a concern about her not having any good bacteria in her gut and told us how important it was to start on the probiotics when he instructed her too. She hasnt had a yeast infection since... nor has she had constipation... her problem had been growing for several years. I often felt it started her 8th grade summer when a bakery employee found out how much she loved chocolate donuts, and sent them home to her ... she ate 2 chocolate donuts daily for months... bad bad bad. joyce Cipro is the very drug that push me over the edge with candidiasis. Guest guest
I took cipro last year for a UTI and it's been downhill after that. I have a constant yeast infection, but with no infectin. I guess just the symptoms.... Sometimes the doctor finds bacteria and gives me diflucan. No help. I took acidophilus and cranberry along with the antibiotics/diflucan and I still think I got this candiasis thing. shefy Ken <crapmail@...> wrote: Cipro is the very drug that push me over the edge with candidiasis.
