Guest guest
Jerry, you will be happy to know that Bill Frist MD heart surgeon (R.Senate majority leader with his pockets full of Merck) has decided not to run for president in 2008. He claims he needs a rest from politics but I think it' because of the shift in power is going to Democrats next year, and he realizes he won't have a flicker of a chance of winning. But the bill that will clamp down on the vitamin industry still looms. Had Frist won in 08, I fear flu vaccine would have become mandory on the entire population of the USA. Guest guest
“The combined profits for the ten drug companies in the Fortune 500 (35.9 billion) were more than the profits for all of the other 490 businesses put together (33.7 billion). Over the past two decades the pharmaceutical industry has moved very far from its original purpose of discovering and producing useful new drugs. Now primarily a marketing machine to sell drugs of dubious benefit, this industry uses its wealth and power to co-opt every institution that might stand in its way, including the U.S. Congress, the FDA, academic medical centers and the medical profession itself.” The author is not a flamboyant reformer but rather Dr. Marcia Angell, currently Senior Lecturer in the Department of Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School. She stepped down as Editor-in-Chief of the New England Journal of Medicine on June 30, 2000.
