Guest guest
Hi, Unfortunatelly is not that simple as taking magnesium and witholding calcium. One needs to make sure that there is enough stomach acidity to solubilize calcium and that is the most overlook problem in people over 50. The estrogen/progesterone ratio also plays a great deal. Your absorption of magnesium may be low and it'd help to take it with heavier meals (protein and fats) Your ANS balance has also a great influence. The hormonal production of calcitonin and other markerts would have to be reviewed as well as the calciification of the anterior pituitary which may also affect the balance. Blood pH (affected by your diet and stress levels) have a lot to do with the amount of calcium pulled out of the bone tissue to alkalinize the blood is one more factor. It is really a complicated matter and one would need to test you in order to determine all these aspects and more. Sorry I can help you from here. Re: constipation/now osteoporosis , Thanks for the additional input on magnesium oxide. Could you explain a bit about " displaced toward calcium. " I seem to create calcium deposits just by eating a piece of swiss cheese (my fingers start to creak and a new lump will develop on my thumb) and a recent CTcan showed the only problem they could find was calcium deposits, even in my lungs for heavens sake! Osteoporosis!!! Occasionally I feel stiff after sitting a long time but do not SUFFER from arthritis. I no longer drink sodas so have reduced phosphoros and take extra Vit D (we winter in Florida and I get lots of sun) but still seem to have a calcium/mag balance problem while taking 400- 800 mg magnesium a day. I threw away all calcium supplements a year ago because of the deranged metabolism. Now with the big " O " , I need to figure this out. My doc just said take extra Vit D and you'll be fine - but I don't think so. Dee Y. > > > > > Hi magnesium oxide is very harsh. Guest guest
Isabel, The problem with constipation may not be just a deficit of magnesium. One needs to find out what the underlying cause is and address it. The digestive sytem is a North-South system, in other words, one needs to review the food, the chewing, the swallowing, the stomach, the live-gallbladder, the intestines, and so on. A problem showing up in your colon may be coming from the stomach and a problem showing up in the stomach may come from your diet. This is a complicated but accurate description of how things work. Popping a laxative, magnesium or a drug is no way to treat your body. One needs to find the cause and treat it. The adrenal glands have a lot to do with digestion becuase they are involved in the function of the Autonomic Nervous System, which regulates a diversity of body functions including digestion. Osteoporosis is usually a manisfestation of chronic deficit of stomach acid but not all the time. I never recommend to take magnesium oxide. I always use citrate or osporotate and titrate the amounts necessary until I achieve a MILD laxative effect but I do that once I determine the person's deficits. Vitamin C will also help you along with the constipation but again, you need to find the real cause. regards Re: Re: constipation/now osteoporosis -Yes was looking for you I have a stomach problem for a wile I am very grateful of your recommendation to take Magnesium oxide it worked the first day I took 3 400 mg pills and got the runs so i cut down to 1 400 mg a day and I am doing very wee my stomach is been very inflamed for a long time I was in laxatives for 2 years on and off. Guest guest
My mother is still having problems with constipation. I've tried Dr. s bowel program, I give her plenty of Vitamin C. Right now I'm trying Dr. Schulze's Intestinal formula. You are suppose to add one capsule a day until you reach 3 bowel movements a day. I'm up to 5 so far with not much results. I always have to use these isa flush capsule with magnesium in them. I think something is wrong with her adrenal gland, because her salt level drops at times. How can one find the main cause? fcunsrial@... wrote: Isabel, The problem with constipation may not be just a deficit of magnesium. One needs to find out what the underlying cause is and address it. Guest guest
Reysean, If she is not having a bowel movement, you must be very careful that she is not getting overloaded with fiber (is that in the Dr. Schulze's formula?). If there is a blockage of any sort in her system, then the fiber will eventually build up and cause pain. While is right about finding the cause, not just treating the symptoms, it is very important to get her bowels moving, but you need to take the steps slowly incase there is an obstruction. Magnesium oxide has never failed me, or anyone I have ever told, to take it for constipation. Vitamin C will also help, however, if it is all absorbed by the body, then it will not produce a loose bowel movement. Only when you have saturated your body with Vitamin C, will you experience the loose bowel movements from the excess vitamin C, so if it is not at that point, then keep giving her more because her body needs it. Quite a while ago I read of a woman who juiced apples at home and just drank that for one week to try to cure her constipation. She would have rock hard bowel movements twice a month. The apple juice worked for her and she claimed to pass about 10 pounds of hard feces on the sixth day and anohter 10 pounds of looser feces on the 7th day (did she weigh it? Yuck!). I don't know what she did after her apple juice fast or if it helped her in her future. I also don't know of anyone who has used just apple juice for that long to clean themselves out, but I tend to think it would work, but not the best nutritional way of doing things. Does your mother get enough good oils in her foods? Like olive oil, flax oil, avacados, coconut meat, salmon, etc. Does she avoid sugars or sugar substitutes like splenda or nutrasweet? Does she eat processed foods? Does she drink soda or pasturized fruit juices? What kinds of toxins, pesticides and chemicals could she be ingesting? Does she drink enough water daily? In other words, just how healthy and clean is her diet and what can she do to change that immediately. Ninety percent of our illnesses are caused by what we eat and drink. Most adrenal problems are caused by the same along with a lack of exercise, which is the ONLY way to move the adrenal system. Does she take walks? Even a few 10 minute walks a day can be helpful. Bending and stretching at home for 5 minutes a few times a day can also help. Her body needs to move in order to get her adrenals moving and rid it of toxins. I don't know if you have tried Smoothe Move tea from Traditional Medicinals, but that works about 8-12 hours after drinking it. I once used it because I felt something was stuck high in my intestines, and I was right. I felt that thing move through my whole elimination track and it gave me the sweats and nausea for about 30 minutes, but what a relief once it was out. may disagree with me on this, but I would just give her the magnesium capsules at night, starting with two a night until she has a few days of bowels movements, then reduce it to one a night (500 mgs). I prefer capsules over tablets, because tablets often don't dissolve completely. If after 5 days, she has not had a movement, then I would highly suggest you either get her GI tract diagnosed, looking for a twist or obstuction, or take her to a place that does colonics. Guest guest
Hi What do you mean her salt level drops at times? How do you know that? The adrenal glands have an indirect effect in the intestinal motility (nervous stomach) but other factors such as low magnesium intake, too much calcium, low fiber and water, poor bile production have much more influence. Guest guest
Well she's a cancer patient and a big problem she has is low sodium. I tried Dr. s electrolyte program. These are five supplements for adrenals, vitaminB6 (500mg a day), magnesium oxide (600 mg each meal), folic acid (50 mg a day), pantothenic acid (3 teaspoons a day), vitamin C (10 gm a day) and lots of seasalt. When I stop the program, she starts feeling sluggish and weak and her salt drops. Her bowels don't move normal, I always have to give her something at night. Then she'll use the restroom a couple times in the morning, then we are constipated again... fcunsrial@... wrote: Hi What do you mean her salt level drops at times? How do you know that? Guest guest
Diane, First off she's a cancer patient and has a feeding tube, so I was giving her everything through the tube for the last year and a half. For the past 2 months I've been giving her Isagenix meal replacements with very good nutrition. But now she just her appitite back (after 6 months or so). So now she eats a lot of junk. I don't give her a lot of fiber. I give her the bowel capsules from the Dr. Schulze's program, not the fiber he has. And I sometimes give her two magnesium capsules at night. I give her 2 to 3 teaspoons of vitamin C a day. I'll try giving her more. HOW MUCH VITAMIN C CAN I GIVE AT ONE TIME? I give her flax seed oil once or twice daily. I took her to this herbalist and he checked her out and said she had very little heavy metals but lots of chemicals in her body. I give her Triotein (a product that makes glutathione in the body), zeolite, and oxygen drops to help remove chemicals from her body. I guess all the chemicals could be messing up her adrenal gland function. She gets no exercise at all. She's just starting to eat,sit up good and walk around the house more. I've tried that smooth move a couple times but it didn't do much at all. I took her for a colonic once. That worked pretty good but it's too high 85 dollars a visit. I guess I'll keep giving her the magnesium at night and the Dr. Schulze's capsules. Maybe she'll start having regular bowel movements. Her biggest problem may be trying to rid all the chemicals out of her body. What's ONE good product that removes chemicals from the body? For the last month, I've been doing Dr. s 21 day cancer curing program. Of course I didn't use everything she used, but the things I thought were most important. Her appitite is back and she's gained plenty of weight. Going next week to see if her cancer and tumors are gone. We beat it once but five more tumors came back (in brain, lung, stomach, lympnode, and back). She's a stage 4 lung cancer patient. G-d willin we'll beat this thing... Guest guest
Reysean, I didn't know she was on a feeding tube, and I'm very sorry to hear that, but if she is now eating junk, that could be much of her problem. If you are giving her 3 tsps of Vitamin C at a time and she is not getting loose bowels, then her body is using the Vitamin C and needs more! Once Vitamin C has saturated your body, it will cause loose bowels and that is how you determine how much your body needs. Once the bowels get loose, you reduce the amount as needed to return bowels to normal. I have read on Doctoryourself.com, that it is okay to take megadoses of Vitamin C to bowel tolerance and that can sometimes be as high as 100 grams if your immune system is at battle, and your mother's is, due to the cancer. It is my understanding that zeolite will remove chemicals after it has cleaned a system of heavy metals. I don't know of anyone who has testimonials about this, but it makes sense to me that it would go after chemcals. I guess the only way to tell is to see if her urine contains higher levels of chemicals while taking it. There is another product that I like to recommend to people called Megahydrate, by Dr. Flanagan. \You can find valuable info on the product here: http://www.megahydrate.com/why_take_megahydrate.html The megahydrate may be very helpful in removing chemicals and is a very potent antioxidant. I think it is one of the best supplements on the market today for a ton of maladies. Guest guest
Diane, I usually give her 1 teaspoon twice a day. I'll start doubling and adding more until she gets enough. If a person is very acid wouldn't lots of vitamin c make make her ph level worse? I give her cluster water (to hydrate the cells) with a product called Trioten (to help build glutathione in the body). I think the megahydrate is similar to the cluster water. I'll read more on the megahydrate. She's been running a low grade fever for a while now (around 96.5), and I've given her everything. Maybe the large amounts of vitamin c will help. Guest guest
Lori Thanks Lori. I do tend to over do it at times, so I will most definately keep that in mind... Reysean houyhnhnm10 <howland@...> wrote: Hi Reysean, I wish your mother well. And you too, as her caretaker. If it helps, an alternative MD once advised me that one may take up to 1,000 mg of Vitamin C every two hours to bowel tolerance. However, I also do not believe that all biochemical types fare well on high doses of vitamin C, so if you are going to increase your mother's dosage, go slowly and observe your mother's mood (as I've also read that adverse reactions to Vitamin C include crankiness, believe it or not -Lori Howland > > HOW MUCH VITAMIN C CAN I GIVE AT ONE TIME? __________________________________________________
