I have a tongue sore from MTX which won't go away - I've tried Vit.E, Lysine,

B6, B12, and camphophenic. I take 1.6 mg of folic acid a day.

Any suggestions?

I've had it about 3 months. It doesn't hurt, but it looks AWFUL.

Thanks,

<Editors Note: Awhile back I remember a member telling us

they took 5mg of folic acid six days a week and that it

was approved by their rheumatologist. Maybe your rheumy would approve

a higher dose than the 1.6 than you are taking?> Worth a try?

Awhile back there was mention of a red mouthwash for mouth sores. I don't

take mtx so I didn't pay too much attention but maybe someone else remembers

what it is called or maybe your druggist will know. Upstate NY Peggy.

When I was on the MTX in the pill form I did have some sores but they didn't

last too long. I took 1 mg of folic acid daily to help with that. After I

went to the injectable MTX, I didn't have any mouth sores. I am no longer on

it though since I was switched to Arava (which is on hold for two weeks to

see if we can get my white count back up) and Enbrel. I hope they get better!

Take care,

Thanks Sara - Unfortunately I have the sores and I'm on the injectable - I'm

starting to think I just have to tolerate them for now.

I take what is called Stanford Mouth Wash. My mother-in-law first told me

about it when she had Sjogrens. I started because of MTX sores. The

pharmasist makes it up. It's basically Benedryl and Lidocane. It works

great.
