Guest guest
Hello All, My name is a and my association with Psoriatic is a brief one and really only by association. I have subscribed to this group on behalf of my aunt who is looking for answers. Her son was diagnosed with PA in January 1995... by November 1996 he was dead at the age of 31. My aunt is not the most educated person and neither was my cousin and therefore only really associated arthritis with the elderly and didn't understand the severity of the condition. A local internist I believe started off on the wrong foot by prescribing very high doses of steroids. By the time he got to a specialist who started him on a course of MTX he was pretty advanced. He became depressed and started relying on alcohol as a pain killer. The predisone MTX and alcohol eventually destroyed his liver. Well there is the story in a nut shell. Here are my questions... Does PA run in family's... I know there is a genetic marker but is it hereditary? My aunt's other son who is 37 has arthritis... she is looking for anything that might help him. He is going to local doctors and has not seen a specialist. After seeing 's records the only thing that I can really say is that Steve (my other cousin) should be tested for HLAB27. Any advise, help or whatever would be appreciated. Thanks in Advance, a
