Guest guest
Hi All This just arrived! FDA approves new arthritis drug: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a new prescription drug for the treatment of osteoarthritis. The drug, meloxicam, will be marketed under the name Mobic by Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals and Abbott Laboratories. Meloxicam is the third new drug to be approved by the FDA for the treatment of arthritis pain in the last two years, joining Celecoxib (Celebrex) and MK-0966 (Vioxx). Meloxicam is expected to be available beginning in early May. Cost of the drug is expected to be about $2 a tablet and dosage is once a day. Millions of people use aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen and other pills to relieve pain. These pain relievers can cause ulcers, stomach bleeding and other side effects, especially when used for long periods. Meloxicam had a low instance of gastrointestinal side effects in clinical trials.
