Guest guest
I read all the recent threads about constipation with interest, but now it has become much more immediate: ds#1, who has never had an issue with constipation, who has always gone regularly once and sometimes twice a day, is severely constipated. And just like others on the list, it coincides with our having backtracked to the intro and stage 1 diets as of 5 days ago. Tonight he could barely eke out a few little hard pellets. I gave him some buffered Vitamin C that I happened to have (Perque brand, hypoallergenic, no corn/dairy/soy/gluten/etc.) - 4 oz. of water with 1/2 tsp an hour before bed, and then same thing again 1 hour later. At bedtime, he said his tummy was hurting - was it the buffered C or the constipation? I don't know what to do for him, but it is a very troubling change from his usual. I still don't quite get what it is about the intro/early stage diet that brings this on. The main things that we took back out were nuts, coconut (except for oil), uncooked fruit; and he's been having plenty of broth. The fiber menace site says that fats are key, and i wonder if he's not getting enough fat, despite my best efforts. When we started this diet, we lost butter, which used to be a mainstay. I tried to reintroduce it but he reacted - so what do I put on veggies and such to make them taste good? (Don't have any duck/goose fat yet, need to work on that.) I don't like VCO on veggies, though we do use it liberally for chicken pancakes, etc. If we happen to have leftover fat from home-cured bacon, we use some of that, but there's really nothing like the taste of butter. Thanks for any thoughts you might have.
