Hi everyone,

Hope this is ok to post here... You can see a list of my groups on Grouply at

============ ========

This message was posted by a fellow group member who uses Grouply instead of

email to access this group. Grouply blocks additional invitations from being

sent to this group by anyone for 30 days. Group owners can permanently block

future invitations. For more on how Grouply maintains privacy and protects you,

this IS spam.

I've been getting regular requests to register at grouply the last

month. I check out the website grouply, and looked around to see what

people said about it.. all I can say is be very wary. They want your

password, and if you do any shopping, I would advise not

joining this " grouply " site.

My opinion..

I agree and I hope that the moderator will EXCLUDe this group from

Grouply usage.

It is wrong that a group needs to opt out - but that is how set

it up.

I opted all my own groups out.

Irene, how do you 'opt out'?  I have looked at the web page and don't see where

I can do that.  Also, I evidently do not know how to trim these posts.  I can

totally delete an email, but do not seem to have the ability to delete certain

parts of them.  Thanks.

Here's the link to opt out of web beacons:

(these are hidden ways to track your internet use - so as to

customize spam sent to you)

http://info./privacy/us//opt_out/targeting/details.html

Now is trying to encourage use of profiles for what they call

" more social networking " and have introduced a feature whereby

members can send invites to all and sundry to join lists and list

owners can just join you up tot heir list - without asking you.

Here is where to opt out if like me, you prefer to choose from whom

you receive email or where you become a list member:

Don't forget to click save after editing:

member/preferences/email/view

If you own a list, there is a way to opt the entire list out of

grouply. I can not remember how that was done,

I'll send it if I can find it again, but the above two opt-outs are

useful to anyone.

Opting out a list, protects the copyright and privacy of list members

(who otherwise get their emails from the list displayed without their

knowledge or control, on grouply courtesy of who wants the info

more public to use for spam and increased advertising revenue for them.)

AH - found it; that is here between dotted lines (works for list

owners only)

- scroll down for more response to your other general queries

Assuming you have found your group to be available to Grouply members,

and do not want that to happen, you can find much more help on blocking

your group through the Help section on Grouply:

http://blog.grouply.com/help/

The one I think applies most to what you are looking for is this one:

http://blog.grouply.com/help/#block_invites

http://blog.grouply.com/protect/

http://www.grouply.com/owner_controls.php

In addition, as the group owner, you have the ability to block

invitations from being sent to your group members altogether if you

want. Here’s how:

Go to http://www.grouply.com/owner_controls.php, type in your group

name, and click Send Email.

An email containing an Owner Authorization Code (OAC) is sent to your

group’s owner address. (All of the owners and moderators of your

group will receive this email, so you should let them know that you

sent it!) Open this email and copy the OAC to your clipboard using

Ctrl-C or the “copy” command.

Return to the Owner Access Controls page. If the page does not

display “Enter Owner Authorization Code for Grouply Access Controls”,

then go to http://www.grouply.com/owner_controls.php?c=1 .

Paste the Owner Authorization Code into the box and click Submit. You

are taken to the “Set Grouply Access Controls for Your Group” page.

In Step 2, select Invites Disabled and click Save.

I do not want my group members to use Grouply to access a group that

I own. What do I do?

A group owner can block her group from being accessed through Grouply

at any time. Here’s a link to the Grouply Owner Controls page that

will enable you to block your group from Grouply: http://

www.grouply.com/owner_controls.php .

You do not need to register with Grouply to use Grouply Owner

Controls, and you do not need to submit any personal information. You

can use Grouply Owner Controls whether or not your group is already

in Grouply. The process to block a group is relatively straighforward

and should take only about a minute to complete. Here are the steps:

In Step 1, select Disabled and click Save. That’s it. Your group is

blocked.

To verify that your changes were accepted, repeat step 3 above, and

note that the button is set to Disabled.

After you block your group from Grouply, all current Grouply users

will no longer be able to use Grouply to access this group, and they

will receive an email to this effect. Group members who join Grouply

in the future will not be able to start using Grouply for the group.

Here is an example of what group members will see for a blocked group

on the Update Group Access page in Grouply.

To enable access to a group you previously blocked, repeat steps 1 to

4 above, select Enable on the “Set Grouply Access Controls for Your

Group” page and click Save.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

> Also, I evidently do not know how to trim these posts. I can

> totally delete an email, but do not seem to have the ability to

> delete certain parts of them.

This is browser-specific. In other words it depends on the email

software on your computer.

On mine (an apple - what a pleasure) I use the default apple email

software and the emailo I reply to is quoted back. I just highlight

wiht the mouse for anything i want to exclude, and hit delete.

In any email browser you can set it to either quote back, or not, or

to let yo highlight what to include (leaving out the rest) before you

hit reply.

See if you can play around with these ideas and/or find the

preferences settings menu for your email system.

Failing that, tell us what email system you use and someone else with

the same one will likely know the answer.

Namaste,

Irene
