Guest guest
I took methotrexate at the 50 mg dose by injection once a week for over two years at that level. I started out at l;ower levels by mouth and once I reached 25 mg- switched to shots per the doc. Apparently it is more effective given by injection, and in addition does not burn a hole in the stomach as much that way either. However- be sure to ask for Zofran or Kytril and take one or the other an hour or so before the shot to keep away the nausea and continue to take it for the first 24 hours. I also found it helpful to take the shot after dinner so that I could sleep off the severe fatigue reaction I get the first 48 hours after the shot as much as possible the first night! Taking folic acid six days a week- not on the day of the shot= can help with the fatigue too. I too had severe foot pain including the plantar fascitis and " heel spur " pain and it all went miraculously away once the Metho began to work. Of course it rears its ugly head occasionally when I am in a generalized flare, and once or twice I have needed a steroid shot to the area (which hurt like the dickens) , however at no time did I need surgery!! As to Remicade usage, it is my understanding that some doctors consider PA and seronegative Rheumatoid arthritis the same, therefore being able to ethically able to put rheumatoid arthritis as a diagnosis for the insurance company.
