I don't know of any connection between pregnancy and

PA. I just know that I had very mild psoriasis for years

before the birth of my first child. Pregnancy was great, but

then I was dx'd with PA about 7 months later. I wonder sometimes

if stress following delivery wasn't a trigger. I

returned to work part-time when my son was only

4 weeks old. We didn't have any family near at that time and

I had a lot of strain being a new mom and working back to full

time quickly (for other young women--Don't do this;very, very stupid for

many reasons !!!)

My second pregancy was a terrific remission of PA. I only planned on

two kids, so getting pregnant again is a poor reason for another pregnancy :-)

I suspect that the natural steroids in your system during Preg. probably

helped me. Have any other women had this experience?

I work in a high-risk OB clinic--so I can understand the sentiment

of feeling blessed with healthy kids and not wanting to push it.

Some days what helps me is knowing that I would rather have this

disease happening to me than a problem with my kids (which I see almost daily).

Glad to have others to talk to!!

Alysia,

It's funny that you said you were better while pregnant. I had my first

child last October 31st and I felt great, about 10 weeks after giving birth

and 2 weeks after I stopped nursing I started to feel the pain. My

rheumy tells me that if we could manage to keep a placenta in me all time

without actually being pregnant he would guarantee that I would feel 100%

better. He also has a patient that went into full remission from PA soon

after her 2nd pregnancy ended.

Well have a good day

You know this has been reported over and over by women who had remissions

while pregnant. It is typical. Surely this indicates some kind of hormonal

connection doesn't it?

Interesting..I quit " cycling " after the very first dose of MTX I took...and I

don't believe that was just a coincidence. No tapering...just stopped cold.

Have not " cycled " since.

Would this maybe point to the thyroid? My Psoriasis cleared all

of the way up while I was pregnant. That has been more than 14

years ago though. I am still trying to decide if I should go

see the Thyroid Doctor. My tsh levels were fine according to the

range of what is normal. I am going to see my moms RD for sure -

but this Thyroid Doc. is a different person. I am so afraid of

him wanting me to go off of the MTX since I am getting some real

relief from it. Now if I can get this cold sore situation taken

care of I will be doing great!

Probably due more to increase in adrenal activity and normal immunosuppressive

activity of the placenta (works to suppress rejection of the fetus by any mom's

immune system since little person's genetic make-up is half dad's). I wonder

tho' if increased hormones could have anything to due with it? I wonder if

taking extra hormones (contraceptive, post-menopausal, etc.) or not has ever

been studied in women with PA or RA. Anyone heard of such a thing?

That's a very interesting theory. My dr. says that the University of Penn is

working on that (placenta), hormonal involvement, and b-27. I hope they find

something better than taking all these meds.
