Poetic License!

Hi All

I woke this morning recalling a poem!

Many many years ago, when I was small-ish and my Father alive, we had a

Christmas recital at school. I was learning to play the 'recorder' a wind

instrument, not that I was any good. Think my father realised I did not have

a musical ear, so tried to talk me into reciting a poem. Guess I was 9? So

we sat down at the dinning room table, and started putting 'words' together.

Yes we made a list of words, all associated with Christmas. Many hours later

we came up with this poem, which came to me again this morning. Guess my

Father is trying to contact me or something?

In Bethlehem on Christmas day

A baby boy lay on the hay

In a manger cold and dim

With animals to warm him.

But little did the world know

Of the child sheltering from the snow

Until a star shone in the sky

Seen by shepherds passing by

Which lead them to the manger dim

Too honour, worship and Pray to him.

I forget just how many time I wrote this out, or recited it at home, before

the recital at school. Enough to remember some thirty two years later.

Then just before the BIG day, the penny dropped. I located my Father, showed

him the poem and said, " But Bethlehem is in the Mediterranean and it does

NOT snow their! " My father tried not to let the smile show, before saying,

" Its all right Gill, that is what they call Poetic License! " I then replied,

" What you need a license to write poetry, guess I will not take it up as a

job! "

Love and God Bless

Gillian
