Hello

I never had such strong health issues prior to initiating the diet -

mostly general fatigue. However, so of your current symptoms look

familiar. I was extremely calm, but noticed a clear shortening of my

temper after a few weeks on the diet. It is getting better now, after

6 months. I was extremely careful with carbs, and was taking to much

antifungals too soon, after about 3 months on the diet, and then had

extreme die-off over about 2 weeks incl night sweats, blood and

mucous in urine (involved some pain too), extreme headaches followed

by " brain fog " , muscle cramps causing lower back pain. It took about

3 weeks to clear up completely. I lost some weight also, and I have

little extra to lose. I'm eating a lot more calories than I should

have to to gain weight, however my weight is stable and I feel fine,

with normal strength etc.

The blood in urine scared me a bit, but that lasted only about 2

days.

I've stopped with any extra antifungals (except VCO and pau d'arco).

If the die-off is that fast, then I'll be very cautious about

introducing antifungals again.

Hang in there.

Welcome Alison. My name is Dave. I have had 3 back surgeries and 1

neck surgery. I have 4 levels fused on my lower back. L1-L3 +S1 I

believe plus 2 levels fused on my neck. My full story is available on

the group main page. then files, then Neck and Back pain stories,

then Dave's Story. I tried working for 5 years after my last

surgery, then applied for SSDI. I was denied, then I fought it with

a lawyer. I won on appeal 2.5 years later. It all depends on the

extent of your injuries, the amount of medical evidence you have to

back you up, and that you've tried every avenue to get better, and a

big factor is your age. I applied at age 45. I won at 47.5. The

older you are the better, also how many years you have paid into

social security. I tried all avenues of physical therapy it didn't

work for me, but it has worked for others. I'm sure you will get

others replies that may help you. Dave

it is a long journey-- the SSDI, but if you feel you can not work again

in the demanding work milieu, then apply  be prepared for a turn down and appeal

appeal appeal--- some have used lawyers I did not.

keep posing though to this groups for tips, vents and just plain ole love.

Take care and welcome!

Thank you so much for your reply Dave. I do have other medical

problems on top of my back injuries. I'm only 30 so I was guessing

that it would be a long process. I really don't want to go to

physical therapy because we really don't have the money to do it. I

hate to waste what little we have to pay for something that may or

may not help.

Thanks

I am assuming that you have NO insurance at all-- if you were in a car accident

then was it your fault or the other person, and if so was there any settlement?

PT is not all that useless

Yes I was in a car accident. I am responsible enough to have car

insurance, unfortunately the person who caused the accident did not.

I also do have health insurance. The settlement I did get wasn't too

much. It went to pay the massive hospital bills myself and my

daughter incurred from the so called man that rear ended us. The

accident killed my best friend who was in the car with me, my mom and

my daughter. My insurance company made a claim on her behalf and her

son got the largest chunk of my uninsured motorist coverage. I was

fine with this. This all happened at the end of 2007. My insurance

company is going to sue him to get back what they paid out. They are

currently waiting for him to be released from jail. It is just a

horrible situation. With the economy the way it is I do hate to use

the little money we have put back if nothing comes of it. My

husband's factory may be shutting down.

Alison,

All SSDI cases seem to be judged uniquely..Someone I know was granted the

SSDI the first time. He had Fibromyalgia. Unfortunately, your age and how much

you have paid in does seem to an impact on what you are allowed. BUT, see a

lawyer and start the process they do not change unless they win the case, be

aware that if you simply are never granted SSDl the lawyer may charge for

incidental costs, like postage, gathering material etc, discuss with them..

If you still have any insurance I would suggest therapy a couple of times to

at least find out the exercises that they would recommend...

it is terrible that you are in this position so young in life..but good luck

Hi, I have a son who is almost 5 year old and has PDD NOS. we have being on

biomed for almost 18 months with good gains on social, behavior and overall

health. but we still have issues with yeast and his language skills are well

behind his age.

I am currently doing the LDN protocol and considering starting chelation with

ALA (AC protocol). I would appreciate your help understanding what are the key

steps to follow before starting and also if you can share experiences of someone

using only ALA. no doctor here (in argentina) has experience on this (as far as

I know) but I am working with an endocrinologist that is helping so much and

will work with us on chelating but I need to help her with steps to follow.

thanks a lot!

Hi! Welcome to the group! I think that we can be of great support to each

other. Many people on this group would probably be surprised to find out

that I am also 26 years old. I had my first back surgery this past

October, and I had a spinal fusion on January 26th. I am still recovering

from the surgery. My fusion was at L4 L5. I also have a herniated disk at

C6 C7. My dream in life has always been to have children. My doctor

actually had two spinal fusions and then had four children. She said it

was neccessary to have a C section because of the ruptured disks. I have

the same fear as you do. I am not sure I will ever be able to carry my

children or even be an active mother to them. You are not alone!!!! I

have those feelings every single day. I hope to keep in touch with you.

Hello! I'm excited to find a group like this. I'm 26 years old and

suffer from chronic low back pain due to multiple herniations in the

lumbar spine that I have accumulated over the past 8 years. I'm

having a hard time coping with having so many limitations at such a

young age and am afraid of what the up coming years will bring, since

my condition seems to be getting worse. I would love to be a mother

some day but am afraid I won't even be able to pick up my child. If

anyone has any suggestions or words of encouragement, I would really

appreciate it. Thank you!

I am 31 and finally after years of pain getting my spine fused next week. They

are fusing L4 and L5 w/ instrumentation. About kids, well I had three and the

weird thing is during all my pregnancies my back was fine!!! Now that I am done

with kids and tired of pain I am getting the surgery. What other options are you

trying? I did the injections twice they did nothing.

My Naturopathic MD told me that progesterone is natural relaxer, as well as

effecting the mood, so its no wonder you felt fine during your pregnancies.

Hello, new to the group. I am 50 years old and just had a lumbar lamenectomy on

3/9. I was diagnosed with ostio arthritis several years ago. I've had 3

arthroscopy surgeries for torn meniscus on my knees only to get a double knee

replacement in February of 2007 and also rotator cuff repaired twice. In January

of this year I was diagnosed with spinal stenosis and had the surgery after a

series of 3 cortisone injections which really did not help much at all. Alot of

the pain I had in my lower back, buttocks and legs is gone, mostly pain from the

surgery but occasionally I get re-occurring pain, the same pain prior to

surgery. Doc tells me nerves need time to heal. Was wondering if anyone out

there had same experience after this type of surgery. Thanks, Dave from NJ.

I can totally understand what you are feeling.  I am also 26 and had a lumbar

discectomy L5/S1 on April 10, 2008.  DH and I are now trying for our first child

and I fear I won't be able to pick up/hold my child or be the active mother I

want to be.  I am a pre-k teacher in a school that is located within a child

care center so we have children there as young as a year and when I have to fill

in here and there even if it for a few minutes with the 1 yr olds  I def can

feel it later that evening.  I know you were after words of encouragement and

well that's not exactly what I shared, I just wanted to let you know you aren't

alone in having those feelings.

I think you can be helped a great deal with acupuncture and Chinese herbs.

What's your diet like? Drink raspberry tea.

You need to take control of your condition and maintain your body with yogo

or qigong practice. Don't lose your range of motion, whatever you do.

Hello! Thank you for the encouraging words!  That definitely makes it sound

possible! So far I have tried the DRX9000 Spinal Decompression and Class IV

Laser therapy. It has helped a lot but because I have such a large injured area

it's only getting me so far. I'm going to try the injections and acupuncture

next. How painful were the injections for you?

Thank you so much for your response, April. How have you been feeling since your

fusion?  It's nice to be able to connect with someone that is going through the

same thing as I am.  I have heard that it is possible to have children and raise

them without being bed ridden but at the point where I am right now, just doing

too much light lifting isn't even a good idea.

How long have you been suffering from neck and back pain?

I too hope to keep in touch and thanks again for responding to my post. :)

having a hard time coping with having so many limitations at such a

young age and am afraid of what the up coming years will bring, since

my condition seems to be getting worse. I would love to be a mother

some day but am afraid I won't even be able to pick up my child. If

anyone has any suggestions or words of encouragement, I would really

appreciate it. Thank you!

Thank you for responding. I haven't really been able to to talk to very many

people that understand and have the same worries so it's nice to know that

you're out there. How has your back been after surgery compared to before you

got it? I wish you good luck in having your first child!

thank you for your suggestion! i'm planning on starting yoga soon. My doctor

wants me to do strengthening exercises for a few weeks and then start yoga. I

totally agree that staying conditioned is important. I think I got this way from

not staying in shape.

You need to take control of your condition and maintain your body

with yogo

or qigong practice. Don't lose your range of motion, whatever you do.

I understand what you mean. Right now, I cant take care of myself let

alone another human being!!!! I am actually doing better since my fusion.

I have a lot less pain from L4 L5 now. Most of my pain was going down my

hip and left leg. I am def seeing a lot of improvement. I had 9

injections before deciding on spine surgery. They were not to terribly

painful. When they actually inject the medication, then you can feel a

sting, but it goes away quickly. I was expecting the worst with them, but

was pleasantly surprised. If you have any other questions, then just send

them my way! Also, you can email me at nanny04@.... Have a great

night! Blessings, April

Well the first round I got two injections and they gave me a conscience sedation

which did not work because they did not get my vein so the medicine went into

the tissue. The pain was pretty intense but very fast. The second injections the

did four and the sedation worked so I was pretty much out of it did not feel

much. But unfortunately neither sets worked for me thus the reason I am getting

surgery.

Hi, I am 43 and it all started back in 1999 when I was in my thirties. All kinds

of problems lower back wise and recently a new one to the mix. Spondylolistheses

which I am learning is that the whole thing has done a major shift off track. I

have had good days and bad and I tend to take the good ones and run with them. I

try not to focus on the bad things and try with all my might to go with the good

ones. That has been my savior. For real! I know you might think I am nuts but I

am a very physical type and some even say hyper. I had a very hard time myself

dealing with the I can'ts that back problems cause. Now instead of thinking

about the I can nots I fill them in with the I can do this instead. Not easy I

know but it does help. Welcome.
