Guest guest
Hi - first of all, congratulations on your new job!! I think it take a tremendous amount of courage to go into a new work environment when healthy let alone with PA! ok - shoes?? Well, Dr. Scholls, Dexter and a few others make walking shoes which you may be able to wear with pants. Kmart sells soft mocassins/loafers (I think it's their store brand) which come in very wide widths - I wear them with dresses - not too stylish, but who cares? I need the comfort. As far as fatigue - well, it never seems the doctors have an answer for that one. I manage to do my 40 hours a week only because I try to eat fairly healthy, take vitamins, drink a lot of water, and always always get 8 or more hours of sleep a night. I can remember before PA going out on a work night and coming into work the next day on about 3 hours of sleep (usually with a hangover!) and doing fine - No more!! I would die without the 8 hours. But I'm lucky - I seem to be about the only one in this group who doesn't have problems with sleeping. Sleep is my pain release. Unless I'm in excrutiating pain, I can usually drop off. Make sure you get enough sleep, even if it means asking for some sleeping pills for the first week or so. You'll do just fine:) Good luck,
Guest guest
SARAH, I DON'T KNOW ANY INFORMATION ABOUT SHOES THAT HELP I DO KNOW THAT I HAD TO GO TO A WIDER WIDTH AND I NEVER BUY " CHEAP " SHOES BECAUSE THEY HURT. BASICALLY I BUY VERY CUSHIONED SHOES BUT I DON'T PAY ATTENTION TO " BRAND NAMES " I JUST TRY A WHOLE LOT OF LOT OF THEM ON BEFORE BUYING. BUT I CAN TELL YOU THAT NO MATTER WHAT I DO THE FATIGUE THING (FOR ME ANYWAY) NEVER GOES AWAY. EVEN WHEN I WAS TAKING AMBIEN FOR SLEEP AND SLEEP I DID I WAS CONSTANTLY FATIGUES. SO MUCH SO THEY THOUGHT MAYBE THE AMBIEN WAS MAKING THE FATIGUE WORSE. I HAVE BEEN ON AMITRIPTYLINE AND THAT ISN'T HELPING ALTHOUGH THE DOCTORS SAY IT SHOULD BE BUT MAYBE JUST ON THE PAIN PART. THE FATIGUE AND DEPRESSION ARE THE PITS - TOGETHER WITH THE PAIN IT TURNS TO HELL. DON'T MEAN TO SCARE YOU. NOT ALL OF US HAVE THE SAME SYMPTOMS. HOPEFULLY YOUR DOCTOR CAN PRESCRIBE SOMETHING THAT WILL WORK FOR YOU. YAWNING AGAIN, CHICAGOLAND SHARON

These days, what with a screwed-up toe and wide feet anyway, they're all I wear. Except when I wear what I call my Seattle shoes. (Which is where I bought them; Seattle has some of the best shoe stores! And people who know how to _fit_ you! If you possibly can, look up a store that has a pedorthist. World of difference, I've found.) My Seattle shoes are so sturdy they'll probably last into the next century; these are by Ariat and I know that's a brand you can find lots of places, including department stores. Other names for comfy shoes are Ecco, Mephisto, SoftSpots .... I know others will post their favorites; good to get different names because we all have different-shaped feet! For instance I love the look of Danko (sp?) shoes but I can't fit into their clogs because of the way the instep is shaped (theirs is for an instep that's low while mine's too high), etc., etc. I also didn't do nearly as well with Birkenstocks as with Ecco, yet others are just the opposite. Good luck to you! --Louise
Guest guest
Cobbie Cuddlers are great and they have many styles. Kmart carries them. Almost better than tennis shoes. As far as fatigue... exercise. Good luck on your new job. jlc
Guest guest
--- I'm sorry I will not be able to help you with shoes. The only shoes that I can stand to wear are from Walmart. They are hanging on the end with thongs, slippers etc. They look like a solid black or navy or red shoe (last year they had white rubber soles- Really ugly) now with black rubber soles. They have a nice amount of foam for the insole. But even in these my fight complain. They don't have a heel , they are flat and that helps MY ankles, back and knees. Maybe if you wear a long dress or pants you could get away with them at work. They are only $9.99. As for the fatigue I can tell you what helped me. For years I was so tired and was very anemic (iron and pernecious) but felt much better after a total hysterectomy, BUT then I had a terrible flare. I already had Fibromyalgia along with PA and I seriously never left my house for two years. I spent 75% (some days more) of the time in bed!!! If you knew me you would be shocked. I love to go 100 miles per hour (not in car) and I am HYPER. Anyway I finally gave in to more RX's out of sheer desperation. I started taking Amitryptiline and I actually got some decent sleep.Three weeks ago I went to a wonderful Pain Specialist she is wonderful and gave me great hope. She does pain blocking and lots of other physical therapy. Anyway she talked me out of Amitryptiline and started me on TRAZODONE HYDROCHLORIDE. You have probably heard the concept of getting into phase 4 deep sleep. They say that if you do not get to deep sleep (as many of us do not due to pain) Your body cannot repair the damage that you cause everyday to your muscles just by living. Consequently your pain continues to worsen. But I can tell you that these types of meds have helped me greatly since starting on one in FEB. 2001. Not only does your fatigue lesson but my constant muscle pain has improved as well. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to help my joints much so when I use my newly improved energy my joints are terrible. Oh well, any improvement is a good one-right? I was trying to explain how different I felt to some family members I said it felt like someone turned the lights on mentally and physically. All I can say is that so far it has seemed to help me. Sorry so long it must be my newly found energy!!! Have a Happy Day and hope everyone had a special Mother's Day!!! Take care! Guest guest
Hi. I too love to live in my Nikes & New Balance but I have found that Dansko makes a wonderful shoe (The Professional model is what I have)) in many different colors. Personally, I think they are ugly but people are always saying they like them (maybe they're just being polite) but they are soooo comfortable. After you wear them a few days they form to your feet & I think they feel better than my Nikes, etc. You can look at them at www.dansko.com Unfortunately the model I wear is $90 (that's pretty rich) but I like them so well, I have them in three colors. I work part time as an RN & they help me make it. Hope that helps & best wishes at your job! > Hey, all. I am starting a new job in about a week and am in a panic > about two things. Guest guest
, How dressy or professional do your shoes need to be? I swear by Doc Martens, 's and of course Birkenstocks.
