Well, I had just nicely made a mid-life career change. The new teaching job was a major step in the direction I wanted to be going in, then the PA hit me. End of teaching career. On the other hand I am just as happy now, a student again (at 42) and heading for a possible future in web site construction. Every cloud.... BTW, as list moderator you can unsub a list member. I also run a OneList mailing list and find I have to do it fairly often. Cheers Tony

Do any of you have something you dreamed of > doing that you went ahead and did before > the PA interfered w/ your life? *Excellent* topic, Pat! My bit is one of dream delayed, I suppose. For years I wanted to play the banjo -- Pete Seeger has always been something of a hero of mine and I wanted to play the banjo like he did. so I picked one up years ago and started to learn it. But then I entered grad school, and you know how that goes -- the first year I did nothing but read and write, and there was no time to play the banjo. Then I got PA (though all I knew at the time was that my hands and feet hurt) and couldn't play the banjo even if I wanted. When my PA was diagnosed I got treatment -- methotrexate, etc. -- and my hands got better. The doc told me I'd better start using my hands and fingers or I'd lose them. Since my right hand was semi-frozen in a claw-like position I decided to pick up clawhammer style banjo! I have been playing somewhat irregularly since, about four months now, and it is a real blast. I can't really " jam " with others, but then I don't need to. I sit evenings in my big chair in the living room and plunk along to my favorite old folkie tunes, or the Dead or Dylan, as they occur to me. My wife has gotten over her initial trauma (has learned to tune me out!) and is happy that I have a hobby and that I won't be losing my hands anytime soon. So that's my story Pat -- not one of dream lost but of dream deferred!
