Hello Judy,

About having PA without P: I am one of the people originally diagnosed with PA but have no signs of P. After a visit to a Dermatologist who diagnosed my nails as a fungus rather than P, my Rheumy originally stayed with the PA diagnosis. Recently she changed the diagnosis to Sero-Negative arthritis but I believe she did that in order to open up options for other medications such as Enbrel and Remicade. Since the supply of Enbrel is low I will be trying my first infusion of Remicade tomorrow.

But--I still believe you can have PA without P. If I remember correctly 75% of patients do have P--25% don't.

Hope all are well today,

Jeanne In Idaho

Hi Judy,

You don't have to have p to get pa, but when you talked about your elbows,

perhaps it could be p. My son has a small amount of p on his elbows and it

sounds similiar to what you mentioned. So far, the has no pa (thank God).

The sausage like digit that you spoke about sounds like pa. Mine was

diagnosed by a sausage like digit (pinky). I have very little p, some on my

scalp which over the years, I thought was just dry skin or dandruff , it

wasn't until the pa came that the scalp was then diagnosed as p.

I have had wonderful success with acupuncture. It eliminated most of the

pain after one session. I had 3 sessions. It did not take away the swelling

in my pinky and it wasn't until I went on mtx that the pinky swelling went

down. I also go to a chiropracter who is also helpful in managing my pain in

my neck. (still not sure if its pa or computer related). So between the 3

(mtx, acupuncture, chiropracter) I'm feeling pretty good these days. I hope

you find something that helps you. I wish you well

Judy,

First to comment on your thought of dealing w/pain and pregnancy.

I must admit that during pregnancy I had less pain of arthritis.

Don't know if this was the case for anyone else or not.

my second pregnancy was the onset of PA. My hips were so bad,

I cried getting out of bed and up out of chairs. The pain greatly

decreased after his birth, but I was bothered with minor hip pain

anytime I spent to much time on my feet or sitting in one position.

In my case, pregnancy was the worst time for PA. in KS

Well, since I was hoping for a decrease in pain if I get pregnant, I can't

say this is cheerful news! But I do appreciate the info because it's

always best to have as many facts as you can. It's defnitely better

than being taken totally by surprise! :)
