Yes, I think I know exactly what you mean. I keep complaining about

not being able to sleep to my doctors too, but they either don't

really care or aren't willing to prescribe anything that works - or

maybe there isn't anything that works well(?). I've tried Ambien,

Sonata, Celexa, and Buspar, but the only thing that works is Ambien -

I usually take two of the 10 mg tablets, but my doctors seem leery of

prescribing it continually because it's only supposed to be used in

the short term. Along with the Ambien, I also take some Melatonin and

Benadryl antihystamine because both are supposed to make you drowsy.

Not being able to sleep is one reason I cut my hours to half time (20

hours/week), but at least now I can stay up later without worrying

about getting to sleep and then sleep till noon if need be!

What about taking Robotussin or Nyquil (the

nighttime-coughing-sneezing-how-the-hell-did-I-get-on-the-floor-medicine).

I'm not sure what other meds you are taking, but one of those might help you

get at least one night's sleep. I also find that I have to have the room

completely pitch black before I can fall asleep. I even wear one of those

eye things they give you on the plane--my husband says I look like a blind

bat man! =)

Good luck!

Hi - I have no trouble at all sleeping - but am sometimes bothered with leg

cramps that wake me and hurts like h$@#. Anyway, my doc. prescribed Flexeril

- it's a muscle relaxant. If I'm having a cycle of cramps, it puts me right

to sleep - I don't know if they like to use it for sleep but it might be

worth asking your doc. if you could use it.

Ron!!

Wow... 20 mgs of Ambien! I have been taking 5 mgs nightly and sometimes it

does not work with the pain being the mitigating cause BUT have been

reluctant to ask the doctor if I can double it up on those days. The 20mgs

seems like an extreme. What's keeping you awake? The pain?

Maybe if that is it then you should look into a different pain medication

then the one you are on. I have been taking Vicodin and this seems to help

for me as I can take it 4x's a day if needed. Between that and the Ambien,

I usually sleep like a baby.

The other day my doc asked if I had ever been to a sleep therapist or

clinic. That might also be a good idea. But I really think that if pain is

keeping you awake you need to have the doctor treat the pain!

Hope the sandman visits you more often!!

Always,

Hi ,

Interesting point on anti-depressants.

I was prescribed OXAZEPAM, (not sure whether they do these State/Canada side), 10mg.

I don't take them regularly, but, if I have difficulty in sleeping any night, then I just 'pop' one in, and hey presto! Sleep, bilissful sleep!!

I Sineid;

I forgot about the cold room thing! I am normally freezing if my husband is

comfortable (once it hits below 72-75 I need long sleeves).

I am just the opposite, when everyone else is freezing, I'm still in short

sleeve and often still sweating. My normal body temperature is 97 degrees,

which apparently is why I am so 'hot' all the time. I hate the summer and

humidity as everything is much worse!

I'm surprised that amitryptiline caused bladder spasms because I find that

this medication really helps me with that problem. Silnce I 've been taking

it (10mg-20mg) I find that I only have to get up once during the night . I

used to have to go two or three tlmes . the nights that I don't take it I

find that I am back to my old habits. Try and think if there is anything

else that you have been taking taht may be doing this to you.

---------

It's amazing what meds can do to individuals. Who would have ever thought that

pain meds could make you hurt more? It is possible and definately true. If you

don't drink enough water your body can't get the medication to work properly.

Think of it as flushing the system:-) PatB

I am on Amitriptyline due to nerve problems in my legs (??) but I take 100 mgs daily. I am also taking Zoloft which is an antidepressant of which I also take 100 mgs daily. Both of these medications are within specified daily dosages, people can safely take 200 mgs daily of either, But I just found out from my psych last week that the combination of the two can turn toxic in your body and if you take amitriptyline for any length of time (I have been on both for year and a half) you should get a blood test to determine the amitriptyline levels to be on the safe side. I just had my blood drawn Tuesday so I don't have results yet. Thought just in case anybody was in the same boat--it seems that quite a few of you suffer depression and you just might be on that mixture. Hope not but if you are better to be aware of that type of complication.
