Guest guest
Hi Cassie, <... All the literature I've read states that this is a mild disease. <I don't know where they come up with that. < Gillian wrote an explanation about that last winter. Apparently I didn't look far enough in the archives to find it; perhaps she could send it again. My understanding of the general gist is that although we don't find PA very mild, it is considered generally " mild " by comparison to other, more serious conditions. Gillian, please correct me if I've mis-stated what you wrote. There was a post on the forum about how we should judge our pain on a scale of one to ten, with ten being the worst. I still find that pain is rather relative in one's perspective; it may be the worst pain one has ever experienced but one's experience may be limited. I've also learned that each of us has a varying pain threshold or tolerance. Personally, I find that I can " handle " pain in one or two places but having pain in a multitude of places at the same time is another matter altogether! Too, our state of mind has a lot to do with how we each " see " our pain; when I'm emotionally upset, the pain seems much worse or the emotional state contributes to the pain. During the day, when I can distract myself with an interesting project, the pain can be " tolerated " better than when I'm sitting still listening to a lecture/sermon or trying to sleep.
