Patty B,

I was having the same thing, and also heart palpitations and extreme

exhaustion--almost unbearable exhaustion that made me short of breath. They

put me on Paxil 20 mg and I feel wonderful!!!!It even helped the

arthritis-they use it in conjunction with other meds for chronic pain. I

feel better than I have in 3 years.

Are you sure that's the name? The generic for ativan

is lorazapam and it is in the valium family which is

narcotic so it works quickly but only for about 4

hours. And it doesn't work if you take the same amount

everyday because your body becomes toleran, therefore

you need more. It's good for infrequent use, though

but a bear to get off of when taken too often.

Take care,

Hi ,

> Are you sure that's the name?

Yes. Alprazolam (al-PRAZ-oh-lam) is a generic of Xanax which " is a

benzodiazepine used to treat Anxiety and panic disorder. " The

directions are for one tablet per day which seems to be a very low

dose but then my RD also has me on Ambien 5mg as needed for sleep,

Celexa 20mg/day for depression/anxiety and Soma 350mg up to 3 times a

day for muscle spasms, so I have to be careful to space them out in

the evening or simply leave one off.

I'm still having headaches every day due to the spasms in my neck and

upper shoulders that have been with me for about 6 months now. The

sensitivity to noise seems to be the trigger for anxiety which is down

now to just trembling all over after exposure to loud sounds (like the

TV) for an hour or less where before it included palpitations, tight

chest, etc. Guess that's progress.

I have noticed that my tolerance for pain is getting lower and wonder

if it's because it's been going on for so long.

Hello Patty,

I am so sorry to hear you are feeling so low. I too am beginning to notice

that I am tired of the pain!

I have been in bed for nearly a week this time except for a trip to the RD

that began and ended in tears. It was just too exhausting to get my tired

body to her office.

Today is a new day though and I feel a little stronger. I hope you do too.

My anxiety/panic attacks are somewhat different. I can be just fine

one minute, but then my heart will start racing, I'll start

breathing faster, and I'll become convinced that something horrible

will happen if I don't get out of the situation. When I'm in

public, I can deal with a few people around or even a fast-

circulating crowd, such as in a convenience store, but at a grocery

store, I start panicking. I just HAVE to get out of there so I can

breathe again.

I was once at Mc's with a friend of mine and her child. I

make a habit of playing on the playground with the kids when I'm

with someone who has kids. This time, I climbed up into the tunnels

that this Mc's had. Right when I finished crawling up the

stairs, I started having a panic attack. I didn't know what to do!

I just tried to calm myself enough to back down the stairs on hands

and knees. It's always very scary when I have an attack!!!!!

What about any of you others?

Hey le,

I have had those awful panic/anxiety attacks more often than I care to think

over the last few years. Two things helped greatly... I know someone posts

later about doing calming breathing and other things for after they start and

that's great info. This is more preventative or pre-emptive.

The first is to get your thyroid (TSH, T4 and free T3) , adrenals (cortisol and

DHEA), and estrogen, progesterone and testosterone levels checked. My guess is

they're going to be low and low in any area is enough to create panic/anxiety -

especially thyroid and progesterone. Lyme for many reasons wreaks havoc on

normal hormonal function and when I'm working with clients, I help them figure

out how to get this function back.

The first place to start is bloodwork - and make them do the free T3 - it tells

you whether your body is able to uptake and utilitze the thyroid that might be

floating around. If not - internally cold (can't get warm), dry skin, hair

falling out, panic, anxiety, depression to the point of suicidal, sometimes and

a whole lot more. Low progesterone is also enough for horrific panic/anxiety

attacks, and gets pretty routinely ignored, especially for

perimenopausal/menopausal women. The docs want to increase estrogen all over

the place and ignore progesterone, with negative results.

The other thing is you may have Bartonella or Babesia (info below) - the worse

they got, the worse my panic/anxiety got - getting treated with the Teasel

Flower Essences has made a huge difference in my anxiety, panic, brain rage,

levels, as well as any number of other symptoms.

There has been a break-through in our understanding of Babesia which is now

considered the most common co-infection of Lyme disease, and not rare at all. He

(Dr. Schaller) has found that not only can the disease go undetected for years,

with no symptoms at all (like Lyme), there are many species of Babesia for which

there are no tests.

Babesia symptoms, which may go back ten years or more, include one or more of

the following; listlessness, slow thinking, high fevers or unexplained fevers,

reduced appetite, chills, sweats, headaches and/or migraines, fatigue, muscle

and/or joint pain, depression, anxiety, panic, nausea, vomiting, shortness of

breath, cough, dark urine, enlarged spleen and/or liver, jaundice, enlarged

lymph nodes, memory loss, psychiatric illness, struggle organizing, urgency to

sleep in day, waves of generalized itching, dizziness, chest wall pain,

sensitivity to light, and abdominal pain.

Dr. ph Burrascano distinguishes the Bartonella associated with Lyme disease

as " Bartonella-Like Organism " (BLO) rather than the more common species due to

the wide variety of symptoms and difficulty in treatment.

In his experience, BLO usually intensifies the symptoms of Lyme, especially

those symptoms relating to the central nervous system, and needs a very custom

treatment protocol.

The symptoms for Lyme BLO may include any combination of the following:

a.. red papules

b.. swollen lymph nodes

c.. fever

d.. chills

e.. headaches

f.. dizziness

g.. eye disorders

h.. sore feet in the AM

i.. hearing sensitivity

j.. severe pain in the tibia

k.. muscle aches

l.. sore throat

m.. profound fatigue

n.. agitation

o.. insomnia

p.. anxiety

q.. encephalitis

r.. gastritis

s.. lower abdominal pain

t.. rashes

u.. lumps on skin

v.. abnormal bruising

w.. psychiatric abnomalities (mild to severe)

anxiety/panic attacks

CaliforniaLyme

i had a horrible anxiety attack tonight at my family get together. nothing

prompted it and i haven't had one in a couple of years. i used to have them

in the begining of my lyme infection before i knew what was wrong. since

starting treatment last year i have had a few times of anxiety that goes

away quickly but tonight was really bad. of course nobody around me knew

since all the feelings are internal. my question is does anyone else

struggle with this, as i don't see too many posts on it and has any remedy

(preferably natural) helped alleviate anxiety/panic attack issues.

My daughter also (10) use to get them allot - she now takes Bach Flower

drops - I put them in her water and she has no idea she takes them - she is also

on supplements for her adrenal and that has helped also - those two things have

changed her life when it comes to panic attaches - now she pretty much goes with

the flo and only gets one when she is very, very overdone.  And with lyme

sometimes it doesn't take much to get overdone.
