Guest guest
Hi , You must have missed out on the discussion we had a little while back about tooth/tmj pain. It sounds like you have a TMJ (tempromandibular joint) problem, either from arthritis in the TMJ or just good old stress on the joint. Best thing short term is to not open very wide while yawning, or chewing. Rest it as much as possible with soft foods, absolutely no gum chewing, and keep up with your regular meds. Use heat pads on the site. Call your dentist and have him evaluate you or he may send you to a TMJ specialist. There are many causes of TMJ problems, arthritis, stress, clenching or grinding, incorrect bite, and unfortunately there is not a lot of good or fast remedies. I have had a TMJ problem from the PA. It started in one side and then shifted to the other. I now have a splint nightguard that helps and as the flare went down so did the pain. Goodluck! Guest guest
From : Has anyone experienced pain in their jaw/ear? Mine has started in my jaw and ear about three days ago---the worst pain i can remember...I thought it was a toothache, but none of my teeth are bothering me..my rheumy told me it probably wasn't a toothache...i'm just wondering what wonderful thing i have to look forward to with this Yes, I have had significant pain in the jaw along with other on the list. Mine was inflammation in the Tendromandicular Joint (TMJ). That is the joint that connects your jaw together. This pain can run up your head, down your neck and into your shoulder. You can even get sweeling in the nerve endings running up behind your ear. Grinding, or gritting your teeth (especially unintentionally at night) can exasorbate the problem. I use an NSAID and a mouth guard. The mouth guard keeps the inflammation from pushing my jaw out of alignment which makes the whole thing worse. The guard was made by Periodontist (special dentist) and I got insurance coverage because my RD wrote a letter explaining that the cause of the problem was PA not a dental problem Hope that helps, in Virginia
