Psoriasis is completely under control but I only have minor improvement in

arthritis pain. Like not having the lesions though.

I did notice an improvement in both. But the correlation between the P and

the PA doesnt work. The MTX seems to work best at clearing the P. I do

notice the P gets worse if the PA gets worse, probably due to the extra

stress that pain adds... According to my doc, the severity of P has little

to do with the severity of the PA, and it has certainly been true for me.

Gillian, re your questions about p and pa with mtx: When I first started

taking the mtx not only was I in tremendous pain but was suffering horribly

from the p. My skin was always cracked and bleeding and I developed very

tender and gross looking patches around my belly button and up between my

buttocks. It was agony to wash my hair. Any moisture would burn and sting.

The p came under fantastic control after a couple months taking the mtx and I

had relatively few more problems with it. Since I stopped the mtx in December

my p has flared up a little, but it could be the cold, dry weather aggravating

it. My hands have been cracked and the patches I spoke of are stirred up a

tiny bit, but it seems that keeping ointment on them keeps it tolerable. The

pa has been fine, even all this time without the mtx. Hope this is what you

were asking about!

Been there, done that one, too. Have you tried adding a film of vaseline over

the

medicated ointment? It seems to help " occlude " and trap that valuable moisture.

When mine was so bad on my scalp, it helped to moisten with baby oil (or any

similar oil) the night before. I've had times when I dreaded my shower because

it

stung so badly, especially afterwards, and I'd have to take another bath in

lotion. There again, I sometimes follow any medication and lotion with vaseline

in

the worst spots. One greasy pig!

MTX did the trick for my PA. Really reduced the pain in my feet and hands

and the swelling, too. This was on 5mg/wk injected. I've been off now for

2 weeks and my feet are killing me and my knees - yow. This feels like a

rebound effect, but my hands are still OK. My skin has been clear for 2

years but I noticed with the MTX that my skin was silky smooth, more than

it's ever been. I can't quite believe how soft it is! I've stopped using

facial treatments, only need a little moisturizer now and then. Here's my

catch-22 - I'm working 7 days a week now to afford the drugs to help my PA

and I no longer have the luxury of giving up 1 or 2 days a week to be sick

from the MTX so I've had to stop taking it, making the PA much worse, making

me miss work, so I can't afford the drugs...and so it goes.
