We are doing the white ribbon in Tucson this year again.

We made several up ahead and have cards attached to them explaining what they

are for. My husband has a basketful at work. I sent a basket to school with

Mav. I have a basket inside my front door to attach to anyone who enters.

Last month I talked to the 4th graders about eggs. I had a green egg, brown

egg, and white egg. We talked about how different they were on the outside

and then cracked them open and saw how they were the same on the inside.

This month I am going to make two batches of cookies. One BEAUTIFUL batch

with salt instead of sugar and then and UGLY batch with sugar.

I am also talking to the school board and PTF and Maverick will be presenting

them with white ribbons and I will be talking to a group of casemangers about

our support group later this month.

Also, this is the month that we have our annual Octoberfest with our support

group. This is a hayride, petting zoo, cook out and visiting time at our

house. This is our best attended event of the year and we always look

forward to it.

We had a board set up in school with posters and info on DS. We also gave

books (there are some great paperbacks ) to the library. I gave copies of

Teaching Children with DS to Read by Oelwein to the teachers as

gifts. I am still working on the Buddy Walk. Seems it's going to be twice

the size of last year's walk.

Jill,

What we did last year was a silver and white ribbon. If I remember correctly

the silver represents Down Syndrome and the white represents Dissabilities.

I may have that backwards though. Anyway, I put a smaller white ribbon on

top of a silver ribbon and looped like all the standard ribbons out there.

I'm wearing mine.... :)

Let me know what you decide to do for your child's class, I have a third

grader and I wonder about speaking to his class as well.

Thanks,

Jayne
