I can identify with that but most of them have seen things like that. If you're

concerned,

ask if he/she is uncomfortable with it. He/she will probably assure you that

it's no

problem. They see all kinds of things that we know nothing about.

Perhaps you've seen my experiences and suggestions sent to Janet. Aside from

soaking the

scalp with an oil overnight, do you allow the shampoo to soak for awhile before

you rinse

it out? I used to cover my wet hair with a plastic bag and then wrap a towel

around that

to keep my head warm and leave the medicated shampoo on for up to 30 minutes.

Have you

ever used Selsun Gold? I had that prescribed for me several years ago. Your

current dr

might give you a script for it just for asking. My hairdresser was worried that

it would

turn the color of my newly permed hair but it didn't. Other times I've used

Denorex.

I'm never absolutely certain the scalp P improved because of the medications or

a

remission. ??? Not much encouragement, I know.

The Nizoral OTC shampoo works pretty well for me, no clearing, but it keeps

the flakes down. It's not too expensive and easy to find.

hi, this is mo. i have bad scalp psoriasis and have been helped with a

product available only by prescription called Derma Smoothe...it's left on

over night covered by an occlusion cap. the next day another product

called cormax scalp application is applied after shampooing. this cleared

my scalp for a while. when the scalp is mildly problematic i use over the

counter pentrax shampoo which is very effective for me, so much so that i

have not needed the derma smoothe for a long time. hope this is helpful, mo

this is going to sound really weird but i saw it on oprah i think . . . buy a

really cheap bottle of shampoo and put 30 aspirin (the cheap kind is fine) in

it and let them dissolve (it takes a few days). shampoo as you normally do. i

have been doing this for about 6 months now and my hair and scalp is the best

it's ever been! my hair is very soft and i don't itch anymore. i'm not sure

why but as long as it's working i'm convinced!

Sandy - Good Grief! This is major news for me! I'm rushing out to get the

ingredients right now to try. Hope it works for me also. How often do you

shampoo your hair? Normally, I do about twice a week, and that includes one

by the hairdresser, and one by me. If this works, I'll be forever grateful

Since you gave a definite number of aspirin,

I'm wondering if the dilution needs to be a certain percentage?

i wash my hair every other day. even the hairdresser (i go about every 6

weeks) said my scalp was looking really good! i don't have the itching or the

flaking. i don't know why, but it seems to be working for me. also, my hair

is really soft.

or alberto vo5 and they are 15 oz bottles.

Hi Sandy: Thanks for the info. I told my hairdresser about the shampoo and

aspirin combination, and she just raised her eyebrows.... Oh well, I wish I

could fix my hair myself, but I can't and never could. I get my hair done

once a week, and try to keep it up for most of that time. But now that I've

got the scalp psoriasis, and I scratch so much (I know that is a no-no) (but

I can't seem to stop) it takes a lot of doing! I'm going to give it a go

with your formula, at least once by me and once by the hairdresser (making it

twice per week). Maybe that will work for me. I'll let you know. Best

Another question on this theme. Have any of you ever noticed a major flare

after a perm? I haven't had one in a few years and just got one and I'm

going nuts with itching. I've tried the coal tar shampoo, but my hair can't

take it, turned it to straw in very short order.

Are you asking for treatments over the counter? Cuz nothing worked

for me, but mine is pretty bad. Do you have Dovonex cream (not the

ointment) or any topical steroid creams (not ointments)?

What I do is use a Q-tip to spot treat areas on my scalp. The creams

seem to do better since the ointments just get stuck in my hair.

Also, I do it at night and take a shower in the morning.

That is when I get enough energy to do it at all. All that overhead

motion is really tough!

If the coal tar shampoo has been effective for you, it doesnt seem to help

for some, you might try oxipor coal tar solution or similar. It can be

applied to the individual plaques with a qtip. I never was a big fan of

salacylic acid, the only thing it is designed to do is dissolve the plaque

but does nothing to inhibit the growth that will cause the next plaque. Orin

Hi , Scalpicin is an over the counter product but I do have

some Elocon cream which was prescribed for my face and the scattered

P at other places but I was told it was not for the scalp (I think

the doc said it might discolor the hair, can't remember the exact

reason) but I will try that. Losing a little hair color is nothing

compared to the itch. Once my entire scalp was covered and I had to

put P & S solution on it. It was like putting cooking oil on my head

then cover it with a plastic shower cap to sleep in so I could get

the thick crusts off. Then wash my hair in tar shampoo which really

stinks and flake all day. The sheets were ruined after that. Hubby

really hated getting in bed with all my flakes and they really showed

up on colored sheets. Cassie

Cassie-- The scalpicin would probably work, since salicylic acid is one

of the things that works with P. But I hav ealso had luck in the past

with using Denorex champoo, followed by Nioxin scalp conditioner. You

I get a really loose perm because I can't mess with my hair like I used

to (I have poker straight hair since taking all this medication) and I

can wash it and just run my fingers through it and it is done for the

day. I also get it colored. I am not ready to go out in the world with

a lot of grey in my hair. I guess I am vain and do not want to look my

age yet.

Both perm and coloring does not irritate my scalp. As a matter of fact

it actually clears it up. I guess the chemicals burn off the scales.

I do not have a lot on my scalp lately, knock on wood, so that could be

why it isn't that uncomfortable. I rather have a little burn pain than

a lot of grey, lol.

dye, and it colors the psoriasis plaques too. Very, very itchy. I finally

opted for a short, no-fuss haircut au natural. :0)

If you don't like the tar shampoo, try one with teatree oil. It smells

nice, leaves the scalp tingling and feeling great. Tea Tree oil applied at

bedtime works great also. I have heard that lavendar oil does as well, but

and raised and red and I don't want it to spread any further but

Hi all, I never had Dovonex cream. What is Nioxin Scalp

Conditioner? Can you buy it Wal-Mart or do you have to get it from a

certain place that sells beauty shop supplies? I have very short

hair now. I used to think I could hide some of the P if I kept my

hair longer but it's medium brown and shows those white flakes good.

I don't get perms because my hair fries everytime. I have tried

color and will not ever do that again with much P on the scalp

because it is so irritating (burns like someone set me on fire). I

do have some color now which is just a little lighter than my natural

shade and it could stand a touch-up but it can wait till more gray

shows. I also found that the color from the beauty shop burns worse

than something like Loreal that I got OTC. Cassie

If it's any help at all, I use Cyclocort (rx). It's colorless, and odorless

and I apply right after I've washed my hair. For me, it clears up all the spots

for weeks with just one application. (although I am aware that no treatment

works the same for everyone - it's been great for me). Maybe it will do the

trick for you.

Well, I went short with a just a body wave, I need the curls around my face.

*sigh* What we women do for beauty. *wink*

Thanks Ks Di for the idea about tea tree oil. I'll have to look around. My

other problem is allergies and I don't tolerate a lot of the scents in

shampoos very well. I've started using Bath and Body Works stuff because they

use natural scents and I seem to tolerate that better, my mom as well who

breaks out in rashes from perfumes.
