In answer to your wine question, I went on a cruise and was also concerned

about mixing wine and mtx. My dr. assured me a glass of wine with dinner

would not hurt. It was a 10 day cruise and I had a glass of wine with each

dinner and sometimes two. It did not hurt me at all. I am not a drinker and

my liver is in perfect condition, when starting the mtx, therefore, do not

anticipate a problem with a few glasses of wine. I've been on mtx for about 2

months now and things seem fine with my blood test results, therefore, I'm

not going to worry about the occasional glass of wine. Everyone, however, is

different. Good luck with your decision.

My Doctor told me that I could have one drink at my daughters wedding, but since I didn't have a daughter, I couldn't have any. But, in my research, I've come to believe that incidental drinking isn't the problem, it's the people that have a tendency to over do it. My friends and I were in our party phase when I when on MTX. I had to make a decision to do the meds or to drink. I quit drinking then, but now will have an occasional cocktail. I've been on MTX almost 7 years. I think if your doc says it's OK, you should be fine. I have read not to drink to close to your weekly dose of MTX. Hope this helps. Becky

Hi Judy - I had to go off of MTX for a few weeks because of elevated liver

enzymes. I am strict as can be with myself when it comes to alcohol -

ABSOLUTELY NONE! - however, each case may be different. I just feel I need

to protect my liver as much as I can and I can live without booze better than

I can live without a liver.

Whatever you decide, have fun at the wedding!!

Hi Judy! When I was on MTX my doc said a drink or two would be ok if it was

a special occasion--definitely not an every Friday night kind of thing.

It's just that with MTX the alcohol makes your liver work twice as hard. I

" celebrated " a couple of times and never had adverse reactions or bad

blood/liver tests.

Have a great weekend!

I was on methotrexate for 14 years and was told I could have 2 units

per week (2pints of beer or 4 glasses of wine). My liver is still

fine.

Read the labels on your meds. If your go against those recommendations it needs

to be thoroughly understood that you do so at your own risk.
