Guest guest
, I believe that thick nails , usually are a sign of fungus, or candida... Have you ever tried Tee Tree Oil on the nails, its an anti-fungal essential oil...? Ellen

Unfortunately I don't have any idea how to get rid of it. Nails seem to be a big problem, P-wise. I've heard of getting shots in your nails (can you imagine! I can't; the derm said it would be really painful and wouldn't work that well), but I've never tried. I think others have suggested applying topical ointments to nails; hopefully they'll be posting soon. --Louise
Guest guest
Hi Judy Yes it is part of P and there is no getting rid of it. I have pedicures regularly where they buff the top of the nail to smooth it out and they clean under the nail with a type of scraper. I cannot do it myself as my spine is too fibrous for me to even bend forward so I am forced to indulge in a pedicure. I also have great pain relief as I usually get a good foot massage as part of the pedicure so I would advise that you try it too. I also have them paint my toenails in a soft shade and even though my nails are chalky they look neat and pretty. I have always had nice looking feet and always wore sandals proudly but ever since the P and my pitted toenails I have become more cautious. After my weekly pedicure I am able to wear my sandals confidently. By the way, I have struck a deal with the beauty salon as pedicures can be quite pricey so they made me a special deal which is quite affordable. Good luck Soraya [ ] Thick Nails Hi Everyone, this is such a gross topic but heck Ijust gotta ask,,,,,,,,, Does anyone have any toe nails that get really thick and white behind the nails? My Chiro said it is part of P. He said it is layers of dead skin that doesnt shed itself. It looks like a yucky fungus to me but he said it isnt. If anyone knows what I am talking about can you offer any suggestions in getting rid of it? Thanks Judy __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Judy - My toenails used to be so thin that I could bend them. I find they are much thicker now. I thought that this was maybe just a normal result of aging, but perhaps it's the PA. My fingernails are still very thin and soft though. Also, my feet in general look awful. Much more cracked skin and roughness. Do you all find this as well - changes in your feet?
Guest guest
Mine were so bad that I got them all pulled out. Painful for a bout two weeks but now I am comfortable going in Sandals and no more problems wearing shoes. Not everyone will want to do this, but you might want to enquire about it. >From: lodonald@... >Reply- egroups > egroups >Subject: Re: [ ] Thick Nails >Date: Wed, 02 Aug 2000 22:01:50 -0400 > > > >judy malone wrote: > > > Hi Everyone, this is such a gross topic but heck Ijust > > gotta ask,,,,,,,,, > > > > Does anyone have any toe nails that get really thick > > and white behind the nails? Guest guest
yo, My fingernails become detached from the bed so I have to trim them back about halfway. Fortunately I've never had nice nails, so I'm not as upset as some women would be. I call it octupus fingers, 'cause it looks like I have no nail. I can't pick up coins either, without the nail at the top. I'm getting ingrown toenails all the time. It hurts like hell to have them cut out. Sandals are the way to go. and yes it does look like fungus and they treated me for it for six months before I was diagnosed with PS. bana ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

Guest guest
Hi Judy, Hate to tell you but it is a part of PA. All my toe nails and 2 of my finger nails are the same. At first it really distressed me.....I still don't wear open toed shoes.....but now I'm mostly use to it. Apparently it is the result of PA in the toe joint just below the nail...this damages the nail bed and causes P to develop under the nail.....unsightly I know. I don't think there is anyway of getting rid of it...certainly medications and diet seem to halt but the nails don't change....I wish they did.
