I could not wait to share with you this snippet on medical research which I

found in a magazine:

" Medical researchers have discovered a new disease that has no symptoms. It is

impossible to detect and there is no known cure. Fortunately, no cases have been

reported so far. "

Gordon, I wish there were a 'sign-up' sheet for that disease, I would

gladly trade it for the PA! I am so happy to hear that 'researchers'

are finding so many useful things to research... and so unhelpful, I

might add... ha ha. Why don't we all report that we have those exact

same, non-existant symptoms so they can focus on us... food for

thought... #2 ;o)

That's a great observation. I don't have any explanations, just more

examples:

In my case, I had to tell my ALLERGIST that I was intolerant of ASA.

At that point, he told me that I probably had Samters, because he had

previously seen the polyps.

I certainly had never heard of Samters before this.

Why he had not tested me for ASA as part of his tests, I have no idea.

Why he did not evaluate me for Samters, or suggest desensitization after he

made the Samters conclusion, is beyond me.

When I mentioned Samters later, to two other GPs, they both were totally

ignorant of the condition, and had to look it up.

Subject: medical research

I don¹t know if it is me, but it occurred to me that there doesn¹t seem to

be all that much medical research done on samter¹s triad. Sure, there are

lots of articles on Asthma, but I haven¹t found many that addresses the

samters trio as a whole, where it is clear that they are somehow

interrelated to each other.

One of the reasons why I mention this is because I think that there are a

lot of people out there who have samter¹s triad, and (1) don¹t realize it,

or (2) it¹s not diagnosed by doctors as Samter¹s, or (3) haven¹t found a way

to communicate it (to this forum as an example).

Can anyone provide an ideas on why Samter¹s triad does not seem to be

addressed by the medical research community as a whole whereas there are

seemingly lots of people out there with this problem ?

My story is very similar to yours.

In fact, I went to see separate doctors

& specialists about my Asthma and Polyps. Even after mentioning that I was

allergic to aspirin, none of the doctors that I saw would try and confirm the

triad.

In the end, I only realized that there

were many people that had the same condition as me through searching the

Internet.

I was sick for years before I found out about Samters. After I told a ENT specialist that I had the aspirin sensitivity he told me I have Samters. I had already seen several doctors before this one even mentioned it.

Hi, I will add my 2 cents also. I was just diagnosed this last year by a allergist and I asked why everyone else missed it. He told me that is something that is not made know to the medical community like it should. It is something fairly newly discovered in the past 10 years and are learning more as they go.

My allergist has done teaching and does seminars all over the country I guess and this is one of his 'things' he lectures on. That's what his nurse told me anyway. All's I knew was it took 4 months on a waiting list to see him and everyone in Anchorage that sees I go to him tell me how good he is and how he has helped them.

So I guess we are lucky enough to be some of the first people diagnosed? Whoopee!

I have had Samter's for almost 10 years and just (1-2 months ago) learned that it had a name. The first pulminologist that I went to called it "triad asthma" but never said much more about it. I joined some asthma newsgroups but nobody there could really relate to my condition. What also is very strange I (like many of you) never had any problem taking aspirin and then one day..BAM! Something had to change in my body somewhere.

Just my 4 cents (inflation)

The same thing with me Rob. I took aspirin and ibuprophin for a long

time, then I noticed that I was getting stomach aches, so only took

tylenol (now that even gives me stomach problems) but one day I took an

Advil by mistake and ended up in the hospital gasping for breath.

I finally had an allergist tell me about Samters (and Scripps) about a

year ago, but have yet to get down there...
