Guest guest
Hello all, We have a rising 3rd grader w/ Asperger's, epilepsy, tics, sensory issues, and anxiety and school is often really difficult for him. We managed to survive this year and we are switching schools for next year, but same school district. We have great private services for him, but of course that costs $$$ and time to schlep him to and fro. We have close family in northern Indiana and southern Michigan and would seriously consider moving to that general area. Which state would be better? Are there any schools that deal well with a high-academically-functioning, low social/emotional functioning kid? Success stories? Would love a charming small town where we could live in the town and actually be able to walk to get milk and bread, not wildly far from Chicago (not a suburb, mind you, just not more than say 3 hours). We live in a city now so the suburbs are not the best for us. Would also consider a nice place where I could home school that fit the other criteria and/or where we could get services for him through the state even though we home school. Of course I am really hoping the new school works for him, but I can't take another year like last year. On the other hand, we have access to some of the best doctors, best resources, etc. (as long as we can pay/insurance will pay). Thanks! E.V.
