Guest guest
Barry.....When I first started useing the MTX shots my hubby was trained to give it to me in the hip with looonnnggg needles. But I changed ruhmys and he told me to use insulin needles and put it just under the skin in my belly. So this is the way I do it. I am not always sure I get it just under the skin though. God Bless, BJ [ ] Injection sites Hi, Group,I have been noticing that there have been a number of postings regardingbruising from Enbrel and MTX injections. The suggestion has been made topinch the tissue and give the injection into the pinched area. This hasprompted a question: Are Enbrel and MTX injections intended to be given"sub-Q" (subcutaneous - just under the skin but above the layer ofmuscle) or I/M (intra-muscular - into the layer of muscle)? As theabsorption rate of the skin, the fat layer and the muscle are all quitedifferent, this would seem to make a significant difference in theeffectiveness of the injection. Anybody Know?BarryThis e-mail created with 100% recycled electrons
Guest guest
Hi Barry, From the length of the needle in the Enbrel kit, it is just for under the skin and not intramuscular. I give those in my upper thighs. I do pinch the skin up but I release it as soon as the needle is in. I think the angle is part of the bruising... The MTX is also given with a small insulin needle and is for under the skin not in the muscle. I give those in my tummy. Hope this helps... Everyone takes Enbrel SubQ. I was told to take MTX SubQ as well, but one of the people on the About.com chat told me he was instructed to take MTX IM. I follow my doctor's specific instructions and take it SubQ. , North Jersey Highlands raharris@... __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Hi Barry-Enbrel is to be injected sub-q. I don't know about mtx. Marcie
Guest guest
I have been told to shoot my MTX sub-Q, but I've read on here that some do it IM - maybe it depends on your individual rheumy's opinion?

If you get blood return, you are in a capilary and should probably restick to avoid bruising. - Just a thought -

Guest guest
I'm seeing several of you saying your dr gives you the injections. qustions, were you asked to do this yourself and you chose not to, did the dr just schedule you to come in for these, and what is the cost for this? i assume it is weekly? nanc ediemosback@... wrote: My dr gives me my mtx and its intra muscular. Guest guest
Nanc, I may eventually self inject, but have chosen to have my rheumy give them to me. I do get them once a week. He bills my insurance company and I pay my co-pay. We wanted to make sure the injections were working before I went off on my own and did the injections. Guest guest
If I have help, I use shoulders or hips. I can't reach those sites well on my own. If by myself, I use quads. I use a smaller gauge (smaller than 21) for shots in the rear. Brad > Where is the best place to give yourself Test shot. I am using a 1 inch 23 gauge needle. You could probably use a smaller gauge if you are patient enough. It would take longer to push the oil through a smaller gauge needle. I would inject on the outside rather than the inside and closer to the knee rather than further from it. I have, however, injected rather high (3/4 of the way up) without ill effect. There is a description in message 3665 that you may find helpful. Brad
