Guest guest
I developed slightly elevated liver enzymes about a year after going on to methotrexate. The MTX was withheld while I had a liver biopsy performed. The pathology report stated " moderate steatosis with multifocal inflamation................no significant fibrosis is seen. Methotrexate is a potential cause of the steatosis. In the absence of fibrosis or other irreversible change there is no indication to discontinue the methotrexate at this stage " . So I went back on methotrexate, with monthly blood tests to monitor it. The raised liver enzymes continues at the same level and this is regarded as the " base line " for me. The biopsy was performed about two years ago, and my rheumatologist has told me I am due for another one. A biopsy should be done around every two years. I would suggest asking your rheumatologist to refer you to a gastroenterologist to have a liver biopsy done.
