Janet,

I agree with you. As an employer myself, all women staff, I find that I even

question why people call in sick. Now, I don't say this out loud, but, I

think it. And often I thnk about whether or not it's that time of the month

again. It often is with some people. I also know that women seem to call in

sick way more often than men, in my opinion. My husband has only called in

sick a few times in his life. And when he did, it's because he was so sick

he couldn't move. All of the women at his office call in once or twice a

month compared to the men at maybe once or twice a year. Maybe it's because

we women have to work, keep up the house and be a mom to everyone. I don't

know.

Amy and others,

In my employment as a public school teacher, we are all entitled to have sick

days for our own illness or that of a child needing care. From the experiences

within 5 buildings in the large district - it is usually the mother who ends up

taking her sick days more frequently than the father even if they both are

employees there. Probably a hold over from the culture we all grew up in (and

continue - recall those " Dr. Mom " commercials)

Just my 2 cents.

Jan,

I am a preschool director/administrator, with around 100 students per day at

my school. I also am a mother and have 6 children. I get your point. I was

just saying that those things cross my mind on occasion.
