Guest guest
Hang in there Mike! I'm in middle of reading The Arthritis Breakthrough by Dr. Brown which is a book on antibiotic therapy and it DEFINATELY mentions that you feel worse before you feel better. It's called the Jarisch Herxheimer Reaction. It is actually good news when that occurs because it means that the anibiotic is working and breaking down the organisms which create toxins that circulate in the body. I haven't yet started the antibiotic protocal because I can't find a doctor close to me who does it. Who do you use in New Jersey? I'm in Rockland County NY and if your Dr. is in Northern NJ I could travel to him. Check out this website about Antibiotic therapy...www.rheumatic.org/Index.html and join the support group at rheumatic Good luck and I hope things get better for you real soon. Guest guest
> I was wondering if someone here could provide me with some links on > Anti-Biotic therapy for arthritis... Specifically with the anti-biotic > Minocycline..... Hi- yes: look at rheumatic.org and roadback.org for tons of information, and, better yet, get the book " The New Arthritis Breakthrough " by Henry Scammell, which discusses this in great dteail. > I have been on this for a little over 2 weeks now and I am feeling worse > instead of better.... I do not know if this is suppose to be like this.... > Although i think i did read somewhere that it IS suppose to get worse before > getting better.... Yes, that's right, it is very typical, and probably a good sign that the antibiotic is working, to feel worse at first. That happened to me really drastically when I started two years ago. Again, info on the websites and the book explain this. All i know is that my shoulders are killin me and I was > barely able to get up from bed this morning.... I will hang on with this > therapy as long as I am assured it will get better in the future.... > > thanks ......mike Mike- There are no guarantees, but Dr. Brown who originated this treated around 10,000 people over 40 years with better than 80% success rate. Also note that it is entirely OK to take NSAIDS to help you through this bad period- in fact, it is strongly recommended. Very best wishes to you, hope this does as well for you as it has for me! -- > [
Guest guest
I am taking indomethacine and minocycline. They seem to help but they make me really tired and lazy. They do seem to help my joints though. I really want to find some alternative med/treatment though cause I know the indo and mino will damage me in other ways. However, indomethacine is known as one of the strongest, but also most dangerous (ulcers) NSAIDS. I was given it years ago (long before I started antibiotics). It helped a lot with the pain, but like all NSAIDS, didn't stop the joint damage. After a while it also made me feel very sleepy, spacey and even dizzy, and when I stopped it I immediately had a really terrible PA flare, and was much worse off than before I started it. There are many other NSAIDS- why not ask your doctor to give you a different one to try? This is only my opinion, but I think indomethacin is a nasty one. What is other peoples' experience with using it long-term? The long-term safety and side-effect record of minocycline is extremely good. Ask your doctor about that too. Doctors should always be willing to discuss these questions- it's our right to be helped to judge for ourselves the risks we take in treatment. Guest guest
I'm taking indomethacine as well (I began yesterday) and so far, I've had restful sleep and have not woken up more tired than when I started out. I'm sorry to hear you are tired like that. I think what is making the difference for me is I am taking a Mega B stress complex vitamin from walgreens along with it and I think it's helping combat fatigue. Cut yourself some slack. I'm thinking it's good ole PA and not laziness -
