I would like to start a weekly meditation group. We may have

different religious or spiritual beliefs, if any, but one thing we

share is this disease that effects our physical, emotional and mental

health. My spiritual practices include strengthening the

mind-spirit-body connection as well as developing non-physical,

non-verbal connections between me and other people. Whether or not

you believe in subtle or psychic energies, meditation can be a

valuable tool for healing. And if possible, allowing yourself to

temporarily believe that these energies exist during the meditation

period can be very powerful. (After the meditation you can go back to

your usual cynical self the rest of the time, as I usually do.)

We can pick a time period when each of us who is interested should

meditate, using whatever method you are familiar with. I use the term

" meditate " loosely - do anything that frees your mind, whether it's

sitting in front of a candle, taking a bath, yoga, swimming, painting,

etc. It should be something that relaxes you to the point that you

can focus your mind on a single thought (or on nothing at all). Every

week we can pick a different focus, something that unites us mentally

or psychically. In the beginning it could be simple, like a color or

a body part or word, and maybe as the group develops we can focus on a

person who needs a good dose of healing. Then after the meditation we

can compare experiences or images that pop up. It is always

surprising to me to find out all the similar things that people

experience when doing group meditation - it is enough to shake up my

cynicism.

If you are interested, it would probably be best if you emailed me

directly so I could coordinate. I don't know how many will be

interested and I don't want to tie up this list. (I can post a weekly

update/reminder to the group to keep them informed). We should try to

meditate around the same time. I think sundays would be good, but

we'd need a time period that's convenient for everyone. We can work

out the details when I get some feedback. I think from 6 to 7 pm

pacific standard time (9 to 10 eastern standard time) would be good,

but not necessarily for people outside north america. Let me know what

you think. Also, if you've never meditated and need a little

coaching, I can help you out. I'll probably send everyone a generic

framework so we are all of a similar mind when starting this

" experiment " .

Hi -- sounds like a great idea, count me in! I am the

president of the North Jersey Mindfulness Community, a

meditational sitting group that meets weekly in the

Wayne area. Our philosphical base is Theravada

Buddhism, but we encourage the participation of

meditators from all backgrounds, experiences, and

religions. You can find details at our web page,

http://satipatthana.org/njmc.html

I have a long-established meditation practice and find

it an invaluable aspect of pain management. So let me

know what you are up to, Mika, and if you need any

help, you know where to find me!
