Dear Vicky,

When I was going to the Mayo Clinic, the rheumatologist there

discussed a pre-treatment liver biopsy. When I switched to the VA

(staffed by University doctors), I would have to have a liver biopsy

at a cumulative dose of 2 grams of Methotrexate. I am no longer on

MTX due to severe photosensitivity. The problem as explained to me

is that patients with psoriatic arthritis that develop liver changes

don't always exhibit marked changes in their liver enzymes.

Patients with rheumatoid arthritis don't seem to exhibit this. If

you could be assured that as long as your liver enzymes are normal,

your liver is normal would be nice but that isn't always the case

with PA.

Take care. Z.
