Vicki -- ( ) off to a great start started school last wednesday. He is in 8th grade. Despite having a terrible time with pre-algebra last year, tested into Algebra this year. I especially want to thank you for sharing about a great jr. high teacher, as I ofetn worry about what it will be like for him and whether his teachers will understand and have patience with him at that level. You've inspired me to share my own success story. My son started 2nd grade this year, and I have to say that his teacher is a BLESSING. I gave her a packet on Asperger's and how it " looks " with my son, along with some " Strategies that Work " , as well as some visual cues I made and laminated, his " question stick " (popsicle sticks he uses to help him " budget " the number of questions he ask her), his behavior chart bookmarks, and some other helpful tools I made for him in a Welcome Back basket that I give his teachers at the beginning of every year (includes stickers, awards, stamps & stamp pad, cute " teacher " stationary, etc.). She sent me an email right away thanking me for the information and letting me know that she was so excited about having my son in her class. The first week was WONDERFUL. The second week was AMAZING. After the Open House last week, she and the student teacher stayed for 20 minutes talking to me about all of the cute things he says and does and about how sweet he is. I got emotional, b/c I had been so worried about this year. His 1st grade teacher was so great with him, and I was afraid it was a " one-shot deal. " I was WRONG! I told her how 3 people had told me last year that I should request her, but I never got a chance to speak to the principal about it. Then she told me that she would tell my son's teacher all the time last year " I want him in my class next year. " I thanked both her and the student teacher for everything they have done and will do to make this a great year for him, and I got choked up. His teacher hugged me and whispered in my ear, " I can't even imagine my class without him in it. " (Wow!) We talk after school every day, and she always has a cute/funny story to tell me, and she lets my son know that she's not laughing at him by always ending the story with " I love you, Nico " or " You are so cute.
