Hi, I don't work. I worked for about 10 years and was sick all the time.

Elevated LFT's and every virus around. I stopped working in 1994. I went

back to work part time in 1995 and promptly had a relapse. I stopped working

(again) in 1997 prior to the birth of my daughter who is now 18 months. I

don't plan on going back to work. I have had it with the no quality of life

bit - being sick all the time just to have a little extra money.

Sue,

I work, but from home. We have our own business so I am lucky that I can do

all that needs to be done from home. Although I was working full time

outside when I took sick the first time. I would dearly love to do that

again, but know in my heart that will never be.

Dear Peggy:

Welcome to the group! I can sure understand your being nervous about your

biopsy. If you are really concerned about complications, ask your doctor if

you can stay over-night at the hospital after the procedure. They have to

keep you there a certain amount of time after anyway. My doctor approved an

overnight stay for me the last time that I was scheduled for a biopsy. I

felt better about it because that way if any complications arose afterward,

I'd be right there. Either that, or make sure that someone is home with you

that day and the next.

It should go just fine! It will help with your diagnosis, too. Good luck!

Let us know how it goes!

Peggy,

I had a liver biopsy in July when I was first diagnosed with AIH. I had a

lot of anxiety about having it, but it really was not that bad. They did a

sonogram first and marked with ink where to insert the needle. Then they

deadened the area where the needle would go which is the worst part. Then it

was all done in a matter of 20 seconds.

I stayed in the hospital for a couple of hours and then they let me go home.

I was a little sore, but not bad. I won't be near as nervous next time.

Hope this helps.

Hi Peggy,

I've had 2 bx's. I was very anxious for the first. I expected pain and kept

waiting for it. I heard a loud snap and waited for the pain. It never came.

The " hole " was so tiny, it was close with a bandaid! After about 4 hours, to

make sure there was no internal bleeding, I was released. I was pretty tired

afterward and was glad I didn't go back to work. The 2nd bx was so quick, I

was in and out in less than 2 hours.

Complications can occur, but they are very rare.

Hi Peggy,

I am the same way. I had a liver transplant this past June everything that

could go wrong did. Take things as they come, try not to fear the unknown. And

stay strong you found a good group.

Peggy, I had a transplant on 3~11~97 due to AIH and I have had 5 liver

biopsies, and each one of them I ahve had no problems with. I do remember

the very first one though. I never had one before transplant. My first one

was 6 days out from transplant and I was still in the hospital, I was so

nervous I could barely eat or take my meds the night before. But then when I

had the biopsy done, I thought to myself, " You got yourself all worked up

for nothing " . Many of the other tests I had done were much worse. So relax,

and don't worry!!

Peggy,

I've only had one liver biopsy (and no transplant, of course). I was

already fairly well sedated from another procedure, but they wanted me

awake for the biopsy. They said that I'd feel a " little " pressure and they

were right. I don't remember pain at all and in fact made jokes to the

doctors while it was being done. Of course, I was a little foggy brained

in general at the time and I probably would have joked if they were

amputating one of my legs.

Take care,

Geri

Peggy Do not worry about liver biopsy is simple and not painful. I had

mine as an out patient after I WAS DONE MY HUSBAND CAME AND PICKED ME

UP, i made him stop at the bakery shop so I could go in and get some

goddies. Try not to worry.

Dear Peggy,

I had two liver biopsys in September. The first was done with CAT Scan and

the second was done with ultra sound. Both times they gave me an injection

of Versaid (sp)? (it is similar to Valium) It makes you a heck of a lot

more relaxed. They numbed the spot topically, then a little deeper, then a

lot deeper. I can honestly say that it hurt less than numbing at the

dentist. Then they positioned an instrument that was like a spring loaded

gun that very precisly when in & came out so fast I could hardly believe it.

I would call the sensation more like pressure than pain.

The anticipation is the worst part. After it is over I honestly said " piece

of cake " .

I wish I could be there to hold your hand. Let me know how it goes. Get the

drowsie drugs if you are a chicken like me.

hi lori thanks for the answer. ive had so many bad experiences in the

hospital before for just simple tests. there are always complications it

seems but thanks for your encourgement. i guess what else im scared of is

the thought of taking predisone and other meds, they seem to cause a lot of

problems too. im in denial big time , thinking everythig will be o k if i

just loose weight or something.like that will make everything fine. can you

tell me how things happened with you to let you think something was

wrong with your liver? my functions have been elevated and my a n a for quite

a while, they misdiagnosed me with lupus for the past 9 years so im quite

frustrated as you canimagine.... well thanks again hope to hear from you

soon peggy detoxpj@...

Peggy,

I'm glad you've found this group, they will all help to calm your fears as

much as is possible with these diseases! I too am very afraid of going on

the meds, but I want to live, so there is no choice. I take heart in the

fact that some people have done rather well on them, and that the doctors

don't keep us on a high dosage for long. It's a necessary evil, but its got

to be better than this constant joint pain, fatigue and weakness. Don't

anyone correct me if I'm wrong, I gotta have hope!!! LOL! I think my fears

calmed down considerably when I accepted the fact that I was sick, and

nothing I could do would change that. Hang in there...
