I just finished my first can of Jarrow Th1 Probiotic. I had been pretty

well, not herx'ing anymore, but as I took it I got worse again. It's hard

often to isolate what is causing what, but I wonder if that could mean my

Th1 is improving, and I am actually fighting again? I feel like I did

when I was first sick, the flu-like stuff (like the earlier stages per

Cheney's stages of CFIDS). Unlike herx'ing, it's often not right after an

antibiotic.

Subject: Good Probiotic

Does anyone know of a good probiotic that does not have S.

Thermophils in it? I am on an antibiotic protocol and am starting to

have some candida problems. I had to stop using a good probiotic by

Kal that kept the candida in check because it has S Thermophilus in

it. I found out that you are not supposed to take anything with this

particular strain of bacteria due to an upregulation effect that it

has on the Th2 side of your immune system. I have ordered Jarrow's

new Th1 probiotic and will let everyone know how it works when I try

it. But I would like to know of other good probiotics in case it

does not work well.

Hi et al,

My nutritionist put me on Culturelle (www.culturelle.com) and HMF Forte

(www.smartbasics.com) because they are microorganisms which are native

to the human g.i. tract. They were very helpful, but the one which was

the most helpful was one which I found on an autism protocol site (I

can't find the address right now, but it was by a Dr. and is worth

finding). Primal Defense is the name of the probiotic and it is a

different kind called homeostatic soil organisms. This really helped my

food allergies and digestive problems. You can find out a lot about it

by typing the name into your favorite search engine.

None of the above contains S Thermophilis.

Hi Bonnie,

Thanks for the info on the probiotics. I wanted to ask what dosages

you have used with the primal defense. Did you start out slowly and

work your way up. How many do you take daily now? thanks

I'm also taking a probiotic, Probiotic 14, from NEEDS that contains S.

Thermophilis. Could you please give me a reference regarding your claim

about this bacteria upregulating Th2. My wife, who has FMS, is also taking

this product.

Thanks. Bill

Hi Bill,

I initially came across this in on of Keep Hope Alive's news

letters. Go to

http://www.execpc.com/~keephope/phn.html and click on report # 19.

Jarrow's TH1 probiotic is working well for me. I also take there

Jarrow Dophilus in powder form as well. I like these probiotics

because they are well balanced and do not contain any organisms that

would stimulate th2. I believe I recently read that 80% of our

immunity comes from the gut( can't quote the source right now). So

its important to establish and maintain the right flora--ones that

will keep the immune system in balance. There are other more potent

probiotics like Primal Defense or Natures Biotics. These contain

soil based organisms that are transient and don't normally live in

the colon. For now I like the results I have gotten with the jarrow

formulas. You can purchase both of these probiotics cheaply at

www.webvitamins.com . I believe they even carry the Primal Defense.

I have no financial interest in any of these products or

webvtamins.

Hi,

I am currently taking JARRO-DOPHILUS + FOS in the 2.5 oz powder. Its

more economical than the Jarro-dophilus + FOS capsules. I am also

taking the Jarrow TH1 Probiotic. It comes in powder form as well.

I'm on antibiotics but these have really helped control yeast

overgrowth. Several weeks ago I ordered some Primal Defense but on

trying it I became slightly dizzy and nauseated. This has happened

twice with the P. Defense but never with even large doses of the

other probiotics. It is supposed to be a very strong transient

probiotic. I will try it again maybe next week. It is possible I

have a parasite problem as well. Anyone know what is most prescribed

for parasites (both prescription and non-presription? Thanks

++Hi Vern. I live in Canada so I buy Trophic brand Non-Dairy

Acidophilus, but it also contains maltodextrin - I don't think it could

be very much, since the label states it is free-of yeast, wheat, soy,

gluten, sugar, dairy, and artificial colours or preservatives.

I suggest you post another message with your Country in the Subject

Line to get other members to help you out.

I'm looking for a probiotic that does not contain wheat, maltodextrin,

milk, FOS, or Inulin. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm in the U.S.

I've looked through close to 25 brands and they all have it. Maybe they

have to have one for the bacteria to survive.

Is cabbage reluvalac just as good as any probiotic?

I get my probiotics at http://www.customprobiotics.com/. The CP-1

formula " is a proprietary blend of five highly viable strains of live

microorganisms, with a total count of 50 billion Lactobacilli and

Bifidobacteria per capsule... " The strains are L. acidophilus, L.

rhamnosus, L. plantarum, B. lactis, B. bifidum. Other ingredients:

Microcrystalline cellulose, gelatin capsules, magnesium stearate,

silica.

Does NOT contain FOS, wheat, dairy, artificial colors, flavors,

preservatives, sugar, soy.

Good luck on your search!

Bee,

Should I assume that cabbage rejuvelac is the only probiotic necessary

and that a processed probiotic is not necessary?

Hi Vern. Yes you can assume that. You only require cabbage rejuvelac

and no other probiotic.

Hello

Currently I am giving probiotic called Therbiotic complete from Klaire

labs and I would like to switch to a different one. I am looking for

something that is equally good as the above ( which is 100 billion

CFUs for 1/4th of tea spoon). Any suggestions or recommendations are

greatly appreciated.
