Guest guest
Hi. I recently started my 6 year old on Mucostop. I was researching it on this board and came across this post. I copied what it said.... I looked into this more. MucoStop is an enterically-coated capsule that is not supposed to be opened. This isn't the older enteric coating made with shellac and other questionable materials. It is a newer type made of polysaccharide type material. It protects the product in the stomach but it is released in the intestines. I asked if this meant the seaprose and other enzymes would be destroyed by the stomach acid, or was this just as extra insurance or protection. The answer was that seaprose was not destroyed in the stomach acid, and that several of the clinical studies done on seaprose were done without the enteric coating. This coating is also used on Enzymedica's Pro-Bio product and the substance on some brands of fish oils. All of these products are not intended to be active in the stomach. So do I need to be worried about opening the caps since my son does not swallow pills. I'm alittle confused. Thanks so much
