Guest guest
I have a 4 year old dd (ASD, non-verbal) who is not potty trained. She will sit on the potty when taken to the bathroom but never actually goes. She understands " lets change your diaper " but can't tell me when she needs changing. She'll just take her diaper off when she's dirty, sometimes but not all the time. We are also working on the mechanics of pulling up and down the pants herself. I have even tried to get her to make the connection that what is in her diaper needs to go in the potty. I've walked her over and had her empty her full diaper into the potty then flush. She actually did this on her own a couple of times when I was letting her go without a diaper (trying to catch her and put her on the potty while going). I still feel like she's not " getting it " . Has anyone managed to potty train their non-verbal child? She is doing okay in pecs. So we have the pecs for it but how do I get her to make the connection? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance.
