Guest guest
Any artificial dyes, colors, sweeteners, flavors are not good. I'd find something else to drink besides Diet Coke. Watch out for phenylalanine, which I believe is used in diet pops and sugar-free gums. I had read some time ago that that can cause headaches. Try Hansen's (they have diet pops) or Blue Sky organic pop if you must drink pop. Or even better drink natural-flavored water or juices or natural iced tea. Honest Tea or Vitamin Water for example. Look for Xylitol which is a natural non-sugar sweetener. As far as your boy's diet, ice cream and chips won't cut it. Why won't he eat anything else? Is his reluctance GI related (gas, upset stomach, etc.)? Does he have problems with certain food textures? > > My DS (6, ASD & ADHD) and I have been using Culturelle, grapeseed > extract, AFP Peptizyde and HN-Zyme Prime. When I first started taking enzymes myself, I was VERY nauseated, eventually threw up on day 3, and stopped eating for a month. No appetite. Did lose 40 " baby " pounds tho, and my " baby " was 5 at the time LOL. Try taking 1/4 to 1/2 the enzyme dose, and maybe only 1x per day to start. I took a whole capsule with all foods, which caused my problem. > My question: Is this normal? What can I do to stop the nausea? (I'm > taking the enzymes to help with serious Migraines (which I have not > had since I started!!!). No-Fenol helped with my migraines. It does sound like you are eating foods which cause migraines, but you need to slow down with the enzymes. > Question 3: I know I sound like I'm totally stupid here. I don't think so, altho diet sodas contain chemicals that cause problems for many people. Some can drink diet soda with No-Fenol, others can't. Aspartame causes migraines and other problems for a lot of people, so watch for that. Dana
Guest guest
Dana: Thanks so much for your response. I am still not feeling very well, but thinking I could lose some weight from this is an awesome thought. I'll try cutting back on the quantity. I too was using a full capsule with each and every meal. I'm still a little confused as to which to use with each food, so I've been taking both. I'm addicted to soft drinks. I completely forgot about the ones in the health food store. I could buy it and make it a point to only allow myself one (at most) each day as a treat instead of a source of hydration. I am working towards getting our family completely away from artifical ingredients (luckily my 8 year old DD is so healthy that she wants to help). Thanks for all your suggestions, I need any advice I can get. hugs, " danasview " <danasview@...> wrote: > When I first started taking enzymes myself, I was VERY nauseated, > eventually threw up on day 3, and stopped eating for a month. Occassionally, he'll stumble onto a food at one of the meals that he enjoys and eats nicely. But when I try serving that same food again...he completely refuses. He was 18 months old before he would allow any food to pass through his lips (other than a bottle of course). He is definately not into soft textures. I used to think that part of the problem was the the anti-seizure medications numbed his taste buds, so unless the food is super crunchy, spicy or very cold, he doesn't want it. We are not GFCF. He was checked and there doesn't appear to be an intolerance to either of these sources. I am new to all this and have been researching as much as possible. His Autism is Mild to High Functioning, but the ADHD (Hyperness) is off the charts. Since he was diagnosed (officially in April, unoffically in February) we have been struggling to figure out what is best for him. He had a stroke when he was 6 months old (no blood flow to the right side of the brain) and a seizure disorder. Both of my children are adopted, so we don't know anything about the family history. We just address each new issue as it arrives. Any additional advise is greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Guest guest
Hi , I know what you mean about food not entering thru mouth. I struggled with my son. But at age 10, I am glad he is eating a little better. Atleast we can eat out and he will be able to get something on the menu. My son's therapist (OT) worked on him to eat. SHe did some oral brushing technique and recomended us to us the automatic tooth brush and let him use thru out the day. SHe also made us massage his cheeks thru out the day. It looks like some sensory issues. If he can eat spicy food, no problem. Just get some red chilli powder and top it off his food alone to see if he would taste it. Guest guest
My son is a very picky eater as well and we just had a feeding eval done at The Childrens Institute.....anyway, they suggested " contracting " with him at mealtimes. If he takes a bite of a nonpreferred food then he gets either 1 min with a toy or can have a preferred food item. Amazingly, this is working very well with him. I have gotten him to eat his first fish stick so he could ahve a chip and is eating his mashed potatoes so he can play with a matchbox car at the table. They suggested even starting out that they just lick the food if you cant get them to take a bite and work your way up to bites. Hope that helps. PS He did cry and yell at first but that lastly very shortly. Hope that helps, natalie > > My DS (6, ASD & ADHD) and I have been using Culturelle, grapeseed > extract, AFP Peptizyde and HN-Zyme Prime. Guest guest
Hi there! :-) Comments interspersed. My DS (6, ASD & ADHD) and I have been using Culturelle, grapeseed > extract, AFP Peptizyde and HN-Zyme Prime. I have noticed that we can > go from daily to every other day on his ADHD medication...This is good > news. I am seeing the redness on his bottom (which I guess I didn't > know could be yeast) I am assuming you mean grapefruit seed extract. That is the yeast killer. Grape seed extract is a great antioxident but won't help the yeast much. Good news on the skipping days. That is always a big help. Have you tried adding GABA? That really helped my son when he was on ADHD also a broad based blend of aminos at a pretty high dose was also a great help....we used a product called brain link and it did amazing things for him.. , otherwise I am not noticing much difference. > The problem is me. I am nauseated constantly for the last 3 days. > With food, without food, doesn't seem to matter. I'm tried not taking > the enzymes until after I've started eating...no difference. How long have you been taking the enzymes? Are you pregnant? If you are just starting then it it may just take some times for your body to adjust. Usually 3 weeks but some of us too a lot longer...usually cuz we need it more...how much are you taking? Maybe consider cutting back the dosage and coming up a bit slower. > > My question: Is this normal? What can I do to stop the nausea? (I'm > taking the enzymes to help with serious Migraines (which I have not > had since I started!!!). > > Question 2: My son is an extremely picky eater, all he wants is ice > cream or chips. Could this be part > of his lack of hunger? He especially loves diet coke (which he gets > when he visits Nanny. I understand about kids and their ideas of foods. But I am afraid you are gonna have to institute some changes... Add one food at a time...but tell him if he would like some ice cream after he eats his dinner....then he has to eat the (whatever). And just keep adding in things till he gets an acceptable diet. I would try to stay as close to natural foods as possible because additive and preservatives can really set off an ADHD kiddo. I would guess that he has a terrible yeast infection that is gonna take some serious work. As to diet coke. That is a terrible thing. Between phospheric acid and the nutrasweet....Nanny needs to find him a new treat. Get her to work with you on helping your son. > > Question 3: I know I sound like I'm totally stupid here. I'm so new > to this and over whelmed. I drink diet soda (away from home and the > kids), will this hamper the effects of the enzymes? Hamper no...but the side effects of asparatame and the other nasties that they use for sweetening are terrible. Google asparatame risks. and start reading. Also google phospheric acid risks. The worst part is that they are very hard on the liver. All sorts of nasty things happen when it gets damaged. And that is just the begininng of trouble with diet pops. Bad stuff that is supposed to look good...heck they are even putting vitamins to perpetuate the harm and target those who are trying to get healthy!!! A new market has opened. GRRRRRRRRRRR!!! Money is their god...and they don't care who or what they damage as long as they get more money.... Enzymes aren't the answer to all the issues. They just give some of us the ability to eat better to help our bodies to help itself. Unfortunately for most of us....it isn't just a simple matter of one thing and it being our " silver bullet " . Usually it makes great improvements...but we find there are lots of other things that have to go along with it. Just my opinion Ronni

Guest guest
I always drink caffeine free diet Coke....is regular better than diet? I don't sleep if I drink caffeine (even if I had it in the AM). I'm " intollerant " to a few different chemicals (MSG, Yellow #5 etc). I'm starting to believe that I'm becoming more intollerant to a lot of new items. What's really weird, I've been unable to drink any type of soft drink since I've been using the enzymes (and having a queazy stomach). If I drink anything other than water or pomegranite juice, I can't keep it down. > > I'm addicted to soft drinks. > > > I drink caffeine free Pepsi. If I drink anything other than water or pomegranite > juice, I can't keep it down. Once I started enzymes, I started having problems with foods that the enzymes did not address. I did not think I had problems with these foods before I started enzymes, but apparently I did. Interestingly, my mental problems reduced, and my physical problems increased. So it appears that then enzymes eliminated my mental issues with those foods, but the foods then caused physical problems. Fortunately, it was not too many foods that caused this for me. And as time went on, and I took more supplements and even started chelating myself, these physical problems have significantly decreased, and in some cases are now eliminated. Guest guest
If your drinking coke, it's best to drink regular as diet has chemical sweetners that have a deadly history of causing many health problems. (mercola.com is a easy place to research) If you can't tolerate msg ect. you probably can't tolerate nutrasweet/aspartame/sucrolose ect. Guest guest
Hi , Regular soda is loaded with High Fructose Corn Syrup. Then, not only does the Diet stuff contain Aspartame, but all sodas and many juices (especially most juice boxes) contain Sodium Benzoate and Abscorbic acid (synthetic Vit C). These two ingredients mixed together are a known carcinogen. And don't forget about Phosphic Acid that can take the enamal right off your teeth... Aspartame, aka nutra sweet, splenda, etc, like MSG (that comes under a slew of cover names including " other natural flavors " is an excitotoxin. This means that these additives attack healthy neurons and litterally excite them to death. Excitotoxins such as the ones mentioned, are what enhance the taste of foods, leaving the consumer to crave more. No wonder there are so many health problems today!!!! Already, babies are exposed in-utero, then they are given formulas and baby foods that still contain msg in some form or another. MSG, free glutamates, hydolized gelatin (all excitotoxins) are even in most vaccines. They are used as stabalizers or as in the case of virus containing vaccines like the MMR, they are added to feed the viruses in order to keep them alive. ....OK, I know that you were referring specifically to soda, but the mere mention of these dangerous additives makes my blood boil!!! Here is a link to one of many articles that explains this: http://www.think-aboutit.com/health/ExcitotoxinsandYou.htm From my own perspective, since I have cut these foods, drinks and snacks from my diet, my health has improved, immeasurably; No headaches, no heartburn, queeziness, joint pain, fatigue, confusion, feelings of depression, colds, stuffiness, pressure in my ears, coughing... I could go on... Also, I noticed (even before I knew about phosphic acid) that my teeth were so sensitive that I could not even eat an apple or an orange. I should have owned stock in the " Sensodyne " toothpaste co. Not surprisingly, it's been a few years since I drank a soda, and my teeth are fine...go figure!!! I do find it interesting that since you started taking enzymes that you can't drink this stuff without feeling ill...that's a good thing actually, but that sure hasn't happened with my asd grandson... he would drink Sprite in a heartbeat if he could get his hands on it, enzymes or not! I remember some discussion about all of this, earlier in the spring. You can probably type " excitotoxins " in the group's search window for more information. I know, I know... I kind of get on a soapbox when it comes to what the food industry is allowed to dump into our food and drinks in the name of profit. Bottom line... soda (any and all) is one of the worst things that you can put into your body!!! -Trish > > > I'm addicted to soft drinks. > > > > > > I drink caffeine free Pepsi. Guest guest
I wouldn't drink anything diet. If you must drink soda pop try to find an all-natural soda pop like Hansen's or Blue Sky or as you mention drink caffeine-free regular Coke if you must. > > > > I always drink caffeine free diet Coke....is regular better than > > diet? > > > I won't drink diet because of aspartame and other artificial > sweeteners.
