Guest guest
Hi Donna, My son is a great sleeper except when his guts are amok, ie constipated, yeasty or similar. I " live " through his body, knowing that if his body is running smoothly, so will my life. The years of bad sleep I primarily link to mistakenly feeding him the wrong foods (major intolerance issues, food links to causing/exascerbating illnesses, constipation, seizures linked to factors just mentioned PLUS the stress they incurred on him). I would then give him buckets of antibiotics/laxatives causing more dysbiosis etc. He was always hungry, and ate during the night too!! He has a TV/Video player in his room for the nights he won't sleep (3 hr videos taped off the TV are a godsend) or if he awakens indecently early, plus a CD player if that is needed. My son is clinical AS, meaning no deletion etc found in him. The literature we read on the syndrome spells out " mercury issues " to a T, pity we parents aren't told this, and that the professionals we deal with don't know any better either. I haven't done EEG's since he was little - I'm pretty much over looking for answers in that department. They always came back normal, I used Lamictal for about 5 yrs due to the absences (that we noted). Mind you, we had to have an optometrist (who witnessed ne) sign a letter to get the paed to listen, to then see Neurologist #4 who believed us. I do believe in erring on caution in using the meds, but we saw the seizures and felt meds were the way to go back then. My son was breastfed for 13 months, got strokes sometime after 6 month vaccines, viral asthma at about 9 months old, lots of chest infections/major asthma from 16 months onwards. Plus myriads of ear infections/tonsilitis once I stopped breastfeeding and he was on dairy (ouch for these kids). Hasn't been chesty in years, - dairy other than real butter is out. Did have tonsils removed, 3 sets of grommets (prior to understanding the dairy link), and he always sleeps in a heated room - keeps the sniffles away, - is temperature intolerant still. Has to stay cool in summer too of course. He actually spent most of the first 5 years of his life either sick/screaming or asleep. Nowadays (aged 11) he likes his routine to be " his " and if I oblige, he's just my third arm (but still with major belly issues - blame the mercury there), but not a sickly child anymore. na
