Jan,

Probably the safest thing to use that would help is adrenal cortex extract,

often helpful for anxiety/depression. Lucky her, you can really help with the

dosing of the ACE. Pregnancy oftentimes accentuates bipolar symptoms. Advise her

to seek psychiatric help after the baby is born if she notices the depression or

mood swings get worse.

I'll warn you now, although I sincerely hope she is different, but people with

symptoms like this are notorious for getting something to feel better and then

when they do feel better....they quit taking it, often finding an excuse not to

take things that make them feel better. Sounds incredible, but it's true and it

helps if you don't take it personally, just part and parcel of things.

[ ] OT: pregnancy and mood disorder

I am trying to find some things the help a friend during her

pregnacy. She is having a horrible time with mood swings, depression

and panic.

She will go through a phase where she will not sleep for two days,

and is angry, resentful, and just totally miserable. Then this is

followed by a few days of calmer moods and lots of sleep. sounds

like she is cycling too me.

She does have an Hg issue but nothing can be done for that right

now. So I suspect her adrenals are under a lot right now, maybe

copper is high cause of pregnancy...etc.

Her docs keep recomending drugs which she of course is refusing. She

is trying to find someting natural to get her through her remaining

months. She is five months now and due later April.

I suggested EFA's..a lot of them

A good multi, b complex.

Not sure what else, or if adrenal extract, or lithium orotate would

be safe. Although, I can't imagine it being any worse that what they

want to give her. Appreciate suggestions..you can email also

and everyone else, we've seen Adrenal Extracts cause hypomania in

bipolars or those with seratonin sensitivity......It can also cause swelling and

elevation in blood pressure in anyone, let alone a pregnant woman...

Please tell her to proceed cautiously.
