Guest guest
Oh, my. Why didn't I try melatonin sooner? ===I think melatonin just rocks - and is one of the biggest, if not The Biggest reason my migraine girl now thrives... He was coming in to our room and asking inane questions (how many minutes until Christmas?) or making bed-time stalling requests (can I sleep with you?) like a neurotypical pro. After the initial joy wore off, I did notice he was lying in bed scripting from shows or books, though. Toward the end of the school year it started to interfere with his day; too tired. This summer he had nights where it took 2 hours for him to fall asleep. He isn't hyper; just awake and talking. ===On her better days, these are very similar to the " cues " I get that she needs the lower range of melatonin - and every so often, if I can " catch " it at this point, feels like I can avoid a migraine moment. I give him 1 mg an hour before bedtime and last night he asked to go to bed. Weeee! He's staying asleep all night (as always) and waking up at an appropriate time to start the day. He seems well rested. === " Good " sleep is sooo underrated. (including me in this one - when she sleeps, I sleep - big woo-hoo) I get that slack-jawed look of " did you just do that? " every time she goes to sleep on her own...relatively rare event for her. and then I proceed to have a amjor happy dance... My reason for posting this is 2-fold: 1. I'm so thrilled and want to pass on info (tho I know many use it already). I also had no idea it was an anti-oxidant; something my son seems to benefit from. ===I sooo live here. When it works, it works in such a big way. 2. Does Melatonin only work for those who have some type of melatonin regulation/production issue? ===Doesn't work so well for three of my kids. Is the total bomb for my other two. Am thinking may be issues with different " pathways. " There is a " sided-ness " that I came across at acu-cell.com - keep in mind, for when I might feel the need to check into it more...anyway, feels very individual around here. Even how we " dose " melatonin depends on that individual kid. Is there a deficiency involved? ===Maybe..I lean more towards thinking that it is a " created " deficiency, vs an inherent one. For example, other supplements seem to be overall help, rather than a way to " target " this one issue. This is most noticeable in my older migraine kid - supps help him feel better overall, but do not help him fall asleep. at this point. I sometimes question the night light (quite bright) he has in his room and wonder if that can confuse the pineal gland. Is that nuts? The night light came about 3-6 months before the problem falling asleep arose. ===Doesn't seem to make a big difference here - my melatonin kids also prefer a light on, when falling asleep. Without a light, feel " tense " and almost frightened. " Making " them turn off lights didn't seem to help enough, to push the issue. Have found out, while slamming info, that one of these glands shrink at adolescence - pretty sure is pineal, but might be another one - Maybe a gland that would be involved in turning melatonin production on/off. For example, send'g message to pineal gland " make melatonin. " Been looking into hypothalamus/pituitary connections all along too - hard to keep track of details, yk? (going on tangents doesn't help this either. lol.) ....Just found out one of these three doesn't have a BBB - will be looking into that one later. ===Makes the babies who fall asleep in an eyeblink make sense, and " nt " tired kids will fall asleep for naps, regardless of light, etc. And why All the grownups want the lights off. lol. ===I know I am leaning towards fluoride/aluminum as biggest " underlying " cause - believe it has to do with these " kicking " the melatonin/precursors/ions out of the pineal & other glands.... > I'm going to SLEEP! I hope this lasts. > > Pam ==Isn't sleep grand! good answers to you elizabeth
Guest guest
I partially take this back - supplements that would help clear these two metals seem to help alot...I do lean towards Vitamin C & Vitamin A, specifically for this - tho' I really don't know how I got to that answer, at the moment. wishing everyone an excellent day today elizabeth > Is there a deficiency involved? > > > ===Maybe..I lean more towards thinking that it is a " created " > deficiency, vs an inherent one. Guest guest
Ok, first, I LOVED your heading! Made my day! 2nd, we have used melatonin for years and here's what I have learned. It's tolerancy not weight/mass dependent. My 250 pound father takes 2 mg. and he's out for 2-3 days. My son was once taking 2-3 mg. and it might have had some slight effect. However either due to treatment or recovering, my son now only needs 1/4 to 1/2 mg. and it works great. And I used to need 2-3 mg, now I only need 1/8 - 1/4 of a mg. ........good stuff. winnchimes -------------------------------------- Subject: [ ] Holy Melatonin, Batman! ......hilarious!!..... .. ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Building a website is a piece of cake. Guest guest
We noticed the same thing, had to reduce her dose of Melatonin, or it caused some occasional nightmares. We used it early on, not for sleep issues, but for antioxidant properties and it was very helpful. We no longer notice any benefits but still use it occasionally.
