Guest guest
Hi read your post, and found it interesting, although my 10 year old hasnt exactly said it in those words, he has a need to " pace " or walk and he does it in the house, not outside. Im not sure why he wnt go outside and around the block when he feels the urge. Yet when he needs to do sports at school or anywhere else he complains of fatigue and " cant do it " . Im interested in what others may have to say about this too. Guest guest
My guy is 7 ½ and has to do this running around thing. It is a maybe a 10 ft walk/gallop back a fourth, back and fourth. I just thought it was part of any sensory issues, the need to just be freeeeeee kind of thing. He is doing it less these days on enzymes. About the only change I see in him. I eliminated my restless leg syndrome with magnesium, potassium, and B vitamins. >>My son has told me that the Epsom Salt bath does > help relieve it. Epsom salts are magnesium. Try giving oral magnesium, see if that helps. Dana
Guest guest
Hello all, I'm a 41 year old grandmother of 3 autistic grandchildren. I've never posted here before - but followed this board for several months. This post interested me, because I've had " restless legs " since I was a little girl. I still have it, but am not on the " new " meds - they are far too untested for me. However, I've been taking grapeseed extract gel caps for the past 5 years and it has cut the episodes tremendously! In fact, if I have 1 episode every 2 months - that's even a rarity. I used to have episodes on a weekly basis to the extent that I couldn't sleep at night and would wake up and have to walk the floor for 20 - 30 minutes every night. It did take several weeks to get relief - but it worked for me. You might try it. I take 100 mg each morning. Just a thought. Guest guest
My son too had the " leg " thing and did the whole " fatigue " thing when it came time for P.E. at school or our family runs ( he would ride his bike). After a year and a half of our family runs, my husband and I can no longer keep up with him. When we began, we were constantly telling him to " hurry up/catch up " and we would have to push him and his bike up the hills. This is no longer the case, in fact he stands up and peddles frequently, not just to go up hills, but just likes the speed. We had to be very consistent, we'd give him his 2 L-Glutamine supplements and do our family run routine 4-5 times a week. And the days we didn't, we'd walk to the park and play, sometimes twice. For the leg thing, slipping ankle weights on him and having him lay on his stomach and do curls was essential. Little guy had no muscle/calf definition at all, and his little feet/ankles would just flop if I didn't cup them in my hands and stabilize them while he did the curls. But he is doing beautifully now, and I am at times thrilled and sad to see him growing up. I can no longer carry him the way I used to, (when your son has been ill for so long and just a stick, healthier, but still a stick) you can carry them around a lot longer, this is no longer the case. Daily, the key for us was doing it daily. Energy in Legs Hello, My 12 year old Asperger/OCD son complains every night that he has " energy in his legs " and he wants to run around the block before going to bed. At first I thought it was growing pains, but it has been going on for years! He paces all the time and rarely sits down for a meal. When I mentioned this to his peditrician I was told my son may have restless leg syndrome which can be treated with medication. " There is a syndrome for everything these days! " Has any of your children complained of energy in their legs? Has any supplement helped? My son has told me that the Epsom Salt bath does help relieve it. Do any of you know what could be the cause of the energy?
Guest guest
Besides magnesium deficiency, this can also be sometimes a result of high copper/low zinc. RLS is considered a problem related to iron deficiency, although when I took iron for it I then of course got horrendous yeast, which made it worse - I had it during my pregnancy with my son and it was from severe yeast, Mg deficiency and too much sodium. Actually even now if I eat anything with salt at all it's back. I'm not sure which mineral it is for your son but you might want to consider a mineral excess or deficiency. Do you do hair tests or could you run yeast (OAT) or a zinc/copper ratio or a mineral panel? Does he eat high copper foods or take any magnesium? Does he seem like he might have yeast? Guest guest
I replied to this earlier in the thread - but it never showed up. I've had restless legs since early childhood. I'm now 41 years old. My mother and grandmother had it as well. I've been taking grapeseed extract gel caps (100 mg) for the past 4 years and have had excellent results!! I've gone from having episodes several times a week, to maybe once every couple of months. I'd highly recommend trying this. The grapeseed extract is a great antioxident as you know, and it's the only thing that has kept me from walking the floor, night after night. Guest guest
Thanks Janis and Amy for your suggestions. I will try the grape seed and will get him tested for mineral deficiencies. --------------------------------- oneSearch: Finally, mobile search that gives answers, not web links.
