Guest guest
Pam, I think you can conclude lead is a problem and sometimes the kids are just not showing it for a year or so after chelation starts, takes awhile to start coming out of body stores. But glad it's coming out. What might explain the low mercury is that dmsa only takes out extracellular mercury, Ala intercellular mercury and after more than a year of chelation he most likely has cleared all of his extracellular mercury. Bet you would have seen some mercury if you would have used Ala with the dmsa. Does that sound logical? Sorry you didn't get a put in the face of hubby report, maybe try one with both the dmsa and the ala, but lead is good to show? [ ] Surprising DDI Urine Toxic Metals test results... lead????? Hi there. I just got my ASD son's DDI Urine Toxic metals results today (oral DMSA). I was anticipating mercury, but got *lead*??? Lead was in the yellow range (6.6 ug/g for those who understand!). All tests over the past 2.5 years have not indicated lead was an issue: 4 prior hair tests were all in the low, low green. 3 prior DDI urine toxic metals tests (TD-DMSA)showed no lead or just the slightest blip once in the green. Packed erythrocytes in 2004 showed lead in normal range. Venous draw 7 months ago put lead <5 ug/dL. I am confused. Mercury was nowhere to be seen on this DDI test which isn't really that confusing. How do I know if this indicates lead issues? Ack. I just was hoping so badly for mercury so I could take this to my husband!!! Now I'll just keep it to myself since I have nothing much to say (unless you can help me). This DDI test was random; using 25 mgs oral DMSA every 4 hours. My son weighs about 50 lbs. Any insight would be helpful. Pam
Guest guest
The last DDI urine tox was actually Td-DMSA/oral ALA (20 mgs)but showed no lead. I'm glad we are seeing SOMETHING coming out. I wonder what Dr. Usman will say? Last time I spoke to her nurse she told me Dr. Usman was starting to rethink lead as being more of an issue than once thought (in all kids). This lead conversation was when I was making the change from TD to oral DMSA. She (nurse)wanted me to consider EDTA and told me DMSA didn't chelate lead. Yah, right. I said 'no thanks' to EDTA. Well, getting rid of lead certainly can lead to cognitive improvements. Perhaps we'll see some good changes. Thanks, . Guest guest
Pam, We just reviewed my son's UTM test with our DAN! doc. He said that we're all exposed to most of the things on the UTM test through water, air, etc. So, if several of the metals are showing zero, it's NOT good. We should be excreting these things, not holding them. If that's the case, it sounds like lead was in your son, but wasn't coming out before now. IOW, he's starting to get rid of lead that was probably " stuck " (for lack of a better word). Guest guest
Thanks, . In the past we have seen small amounts of most metals (arsenic, antimony, thallium, cadmium are a few I recall) on the tests. Sometimes 5 of them, sometimes less. All in the very low green until this last lead in the yellow. I've just been so complacent about lead for the past 3 years so this lead reading threw me for a loop. I've relaxed in bit in the hours after opening the envelope! Guest guest
> How do I know if this indicates lead > issues? Pam, In Andy's book he states that 95% of lead is stored in the bones. I would think that the oral DMSA is mobilizing the lead in your son's bones. I think most of us alive today have lead issues. Unfortunately, much of the lead issues people like you and I have are minimized by the fact that we've passed on a good chunk of our lead burden to our children. I know it's hard to be happy about seeing lead in tests. My son's hair tests keep showing higher and higher lead. I'm glad it's coming out of him with chelation but that doesn't take away the gutwrenching shock every time I look at those tests. Our UTMs (always taken using both ALA and DMSA) have shown both high lead and fairly high mercury pulls, but never at the same time. I'm not sure if that means anything. I know that you know UTM's are just a snapshot. But IMO, if a snapshot shows lead at that level, knowing how lead works in the body, it means there's more lead to come out. I know that you're seeing some pretty great things with chelation. I don't doubt for a moment that mercury is coming out. Now you know that some other vile stuff is too. Guest guest
We got a strong lead pull about two and a half years into chelating. Lead seems to precede mercury for a lot of folks, so take heart. Barb [ ] Surprising DDI Urine Toxic Metals test results... lead????? Hi there. Guest guest
What amazes me most is the thought of chelating for over two years and still pulling large amounts of metals. When does it stop? Or maybe the better question is when does it start? Oh, hell, I don't care if he dumps solid steel as long as he gets better. Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and encouragement. This is one of the times where, despite being here for a few years, I feel like a 'newbie'. Should I be concerned about current lead exposure? I can't think of anything in our environment that hasn't been there for several years already. Pam > > We got a strong lead pull about two and a half years into chelating. Guest guest
As others have said, lead takes a long time to pull. It hides in the bones (and teeth?). If he's got current exposure it would show in the blood test. You said that was done a while ago and showed lead " in the acceptable range " . IMO there is NO acceptable range for lead, it doesn't belong in the human body.
