Guest guest
Hi, This is the first I've read about administering this supplement this way. Can someone tell me why this is being recommended/the advantages, etc.? thanks. liskev <liskev@...> wrote: I just got Cod Liver oil from Kirkmans. Our DAN! wants me to use 1/2 tsp on my dd's back each day. I know I need to wear a glove so I don't absorb it and she gets it all. My question is, do I need to rub and rub until it is absorbed? Or is it okay to just make sure it's all on there and let her go?
Guest guest
I hate to sound stupid...but why do you need a glove? I would think it would be great for Mom, too..... I would think it need to be in well enough so that it goes more in on her instead of everything else...why on skin and not in her mouth? just curious Ronni > > I just got Cod Liver oil from Kirkmans. Guest guest
The reason we are doing it this way is because I can't get the supplements into her any other way. She's 3 1/2 and has oral issues so we are going to be doing almost everything transdermally, shots or tasteless supps. on her food. The reason I was told to wear a glove was so I knew she was getting the whole 1/2 teaspoon and I was absorbing it in the process. On a side note, the Nordic Naturals CLO from Kirkmans has a great orange smell. Not fishy at all. > > I hate to sound stupid...but why do you need a glove? Guest guest
Is there a special brand of CLO that has to be used if you are doing it transdermally? Can any brand be used? TIA, Rhonda in CA

Guest guest
Not sure about what brands you can do it with. I would think any one. But Nordic Naturals is one of the best I've been told. Oh I have an update. It smells okay when putting on but she reeked of fish this morning and today. She just got done with her bath so I applied it. I'm going to try giving her a sponge bath tomorrow before getting her dressed for school. Any tips for dealing with the fish smell? > > Is there a special brand of CLO that has to be used if you are doing it > transdermally? Guest guest
It is nice to know you can rub the clo on to the skin I will also have to try this. My son is very tuff to get anything in by mouth also. Please let me know what other supps you are using transdermal thanks Re: Transdermal Cod Liver Oil The reason we are doing it this way is because I can't get the supplements into her any other way. Guest guest
I am now doing the CLO and zinc transdermally. I will be doing magnesium also. So far so good on the CLO and zinc. No negative reactions. No positive ones either but it's still early.
Guest guest
Are you mixing the zinc (and soon magnesium) with the CLO? If not, how are you doing this transdermally? Guest guest
Hi , where are you getting the transdermal CLO from ? Thanks Demi Are you mixing the zinc (and soon magnesium) with the CLO? I'm not mixing anything yet. Not sure if I can do that. I'll have to ask. Dr. Megson prescribed the Artic Cod Liver Oil from Kirkmans. It has a nice orange smell going on but eventually does smell like fish. I'm also giving dd a calcium powder on her food once a day. It has no flavor and she ate it fine. The only problem is hiding it because it looks like powdered sugar and she is only eating little pizzas right now. Like I said I will be eventually adding magnesium. I'm also going to be doing B-Vitamin (w/Folinic)(B-Complex) cream, and Glutatione cream. I know some creams you can get without a Rx but the B complex and glutathione are in syringes and by Rx. All of these will be transdermal. Let me know if you have any more questions.
Guest Joanne J
Hi All ... I have 'Carlson for Kids' brand in the house. They make a 'Norwegian Cod Liver Oil' that is 'Bubble Gum' Taste ... it smells like bubble gum too ... a nice and fruity sweet bubble gum odor. So I have started trying that after reading this thread. As for the Zinc ... I will try using a liquid Zinc ... 'Trace Minerals' brand 'Ionic Zinc' (Liquimins). And as for the magnesium I am going to try using 'Now' brand 'Magnesium Citrate' Nervous System Support (Superior Bioavailability + with Glycinate & Malate) SOFTGELS ... Yes you have to take the time to cut open the softgel and squeeze the Magnesium out ... but it is in a cream type consistancy (something like white toothpaste). I applied the Cod Liver Oil to the back (as suggested in this thread) ... the Zinc on the front of the legs and thighs one day (and will be alternating with the outer arms the next). And the magnesium I rubbed on face. Too early to tell how good it is working (I will post again after I have tried it for a few weeks) BUT ... the magnesium makes a great 'face cream' nothing better for softer younger looking skin. So-o-o-o-o ... Even if I do not feel I am getting benefit from absorbing the supplement I may continue the Magnesium just as a skin cream every night before going to bed ... this stuff is GREAT! Others may want to try the CLO transdermally even if your child will take Cod Liver Oil by mouth. Why? you ask ... well ... when I googled Cod Liver Oil and transdermal I found out that celiac disease (gluten free/wheat free diet) can cause malabsorption of fats!!! and there are other causes of malabsorption of fats as well. No fats (being absorbed) ... no ability to utalize vitamins that are fat soluable ... such as ... "A, D, E, and K." IF ... Vitamins are absorbed through our blood and blood cells. ... And ... They are absorbed with the aid of fats. Then ... If the person has a fats malabsorption problem ... they would also have a problem with deficiency of vitamins A, D, E, and K !!! ... No? If you have any health problem that you can not seem to find the cause of ... there is a chance that deficiency in a certain vitamin may be at the root. Worth a try to see if anything unexpected improves with the use of transdermal CLO.
